TheCZKid's Review of Timney Triggers Savage/Stevens 110 Trigger

Did my first Savage build, with a Shilen barrel and HS Precision stock, and decided it REALLY needed a better trigger to do the rifle justice, as the stock trigger was pretty terrible. Mine is a non Accu-Trigger older 110 action. I was concerned it would be difficult to adjust, to get it set up correctly, but the instruction that came with the Timney are actually very clear, easy to follow. It's actually quite simple, and if you just do what they describe, step by step, you'll be done earlier than expected. The original trigger has a wire spring on the side to adjust trigger pull weight, and the Timney used a coil spring that goes on top-rear of the new trigger, and weight is adjusted by the 3rd adjustment screw from the back. It has a LOT more range, and a lot easier and accurate of an adjustment than the stock trigger has, and it's safe. It breaks clean now, and I have adjusted the sear engagement, weight and overtravel easily per their instructions, pretty amazing improvement. Mine is a hunting rifle, and I set it to 2 pounds 10 ounces while doing load development, and will likely increase to 3 pounds for deer and elk season.
Pros:
  • Very easy to install
  • Simple to adjust, just follow instructions
  • Fine adjustment for sear engagement, trigger weight, and overtravel, a lot more than stock trigger offered
Cons:
  • Somewhat expensive, but worth it
Best Used for:
  • Target shooting, hunting
