I used to love tipton rods - Tipton Deluxe 1-Piece Carbon Fiber Cleaning Rod 22 - 2

I'm a serious benchrest shooter ( 1000yd and 100/200yd) with 5 dedicated BR rifles,who competes twice a month. I use a borescope to help me judge just how clean my barrels are. I have happily used Tipton rods for years, I own 7 of them.My reasons for not buying any more are that the clamp screws on my tubular rod cases that keep the rods from sliding out have chewed thru the soft carbon fibre rod material and I had two handles fall off.I've since learned to split some 22 cases and glue them just in front of the handle to prevent future cutting of the soft carbon fibre and this fixed that problem and no I don't tighten the clamp screws more than light finger tight. The second problem is what has caused me to move on. I find that some bore cleaning solutions dissolve the carbon fiber rod material which constantly shows up as black marks on my patches just like powder fouling which drove me crazy until I figured out what was going on. Not all solvents do it but two out of the three I like to use do,one (TM) to a amazing degree. So I'm done with Tipton
