mikedakota's Review of Torrey Pines Logic Mini Thermal Imager

I first saw these at SHOT Show earlier this year and handled all 4 models in their booth. Although they said the W model was their best seller, I chose the V because it reaches out a little further with around an 8 deg FOV.
Yes, it is small, but that's what makes it cool - I can use it for multiple purposes.
I can shoot it as a scope, or mount it on the side at an angle just to see what might be out there before I use my regular scope to shoot.
It's got multiple reticles that can be turned on or off, so I also have used it with the handle that comes with it sometimes in my yard and land to see what's out there in pitch black.
I also mounted it on my Glock and for home/property defense, it's great - I don't have to turn on any lights, so they can't see me, but I can see them - I can even dim the screen so it doesn't reflect off my face.
I like the "white hot" setting, even though it's got 4 different screen views.
As far as the screen goes, there are menus that let you turn on sharpening so the edges of whatever I'm looking at are clearer, and there's some kind of noise reduction setting they call squelch that evens out the contrast when I look at less bright objects out there.
All in all, there's a lot of capability in this little thing for what I paid for it.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Size
  • Build quality
  • Capability, for price
  • quick release mount
Cons:
  • zeroing the reticle is a bit time consuming
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • home protection
  • any night activity where you need to see what's out there in the dark
