Luke's Review of Trijicon AccuPower 1-8x28 Rifle Scope MOA Segmented-Circle Crosshair w/ Red LED
Bottom line up front: if you plan on truly exploiting the 1x feature of your LPVO like a red dot site, go with something that is proven daylight bright (e.g. Vortex, Leupold, Nighforce, etc.). Having said that, I really like this optic. I liked the reticle design, but it's NOT daylight capable (which was claimed by some reviewers on youtube). Outdoors, at best it's usable at max power on an overcast day, or in a shaded environment; otherwise, it largely gets washed out. Other things I noted were: When at 1x the segmented circle reticle has the appearance of an EOTech reticle. I appreciate the locking turrets, which also have positive clicks; no mushiness. I also appreciate the small magnification lever vs the knurled ring some other optics have. The illumination settings seem to have a "wall" where they go from barely illuminating to usable (going from the 5th to 6th setting); that's in an indoor, well-lit room. It's heavy, but most of these LVPOs are. Lastly, the battery life is very short; I believe the manual says 30 hours, but that quickly adds up if you do any amount of shooting. There was some bleeding of the illumination into the Mil ladder (as noted by some other reviewers), but it wasn't enough to bother me. On a side note, the optic came with the reticle canted 5-10 degrees to the right. Although very frustrating to have to return a product, Trijicon's customer service was first rate; I had a brand new optic w/in two weeks of mailing it back.
In summary, I like the optic enough that I'm keeping it; the glass is clear and I like the reticle. I just know that I have to have several batteries handy at every shooting event, and I practice using the 1x setting both with and without illumination.
