VAPatriot's Review of Trijicon ACOG 4x32mm Dual Illumination Scope and Red Dot Sight
Shopping for a great tactical scope for my new FN-SCAR 16 was fairly easy. I knew that this phenomenal rifle needed just as good of an optic. Many would argue for the ACOG or the Elcan, but I also considered the Burris. My Sig Sauer AR uses the Burris Fullfield TAC30 Scope 1-4x24mm with top mounted TEO red dot. I can tell you that this optic has been extremely reliable and tough to beat for the $795 price tag. Can we really compare the Burris to the ACOG? We can argue that later...
Now for the ACOG. Having spent some time in Afghanistan I can tell you that this optic is very popular and is no doubt proven where it really counts. My TA31-ECOS ACOG is an awesome optic which after just a few rounds at 100M I was easily shooting 1.5" groupings so I absolutely loved the fixed 4x32. However, within a matter of days I started to lose illumination of the red dot on the RMR. It seemed to have a mind of it's own, operating only when it feels like it. When you consider the circumstances where one might need the red dot (i.e. CQB) it's a bit disconcerting that an optic of this caliber and price would intermittently fail. I truly believe that this is a rare occurrence. So I reached out to Trijicon and they are currently sending a return authorization so I can have it repaired or replaced. I report later on the outcome of the replacement...
