As a police officer I strive to implement the KISS principal (keep it simple stupid). I started with a mid price range red dot which I really liked but wasn't willing to trust my life to it so I moved to 4x32 ACOG with the green horse shoe which I love but it washed out in way too many situations for me to trust my life, my co workers lives and the people I protect with. I really wanted to try the 1x42 but my local dealer offered me a very good deal I couldn't resist on this one. I am so glad that I did. One thing that I have not seen mentioned anywhere is that the front mounted fiber optic picks up reflected light from a weapon light and increases the reticle brightness, something the ACOG or 1x42 could never do with their top mounted fiber optic. It does wash out if I'm in a totally dark room looking into a bright area but I came up with a way to eliminate that. I made a mount that would mount on my rail in front of the optic that holds a single AAA led flashlight that points at the fiber optic. It works great and unlike the high end holographic sight I removed, if the little flashlight fails the dot is still there and is useable, it's just not as fast since it's not as bright. I can't think of a single situation in my career where I have been in a situation that would require this but it's better to have it and never need it than need it and not have it once. The only real drawback is that the fiber optic lightly glows when the flash light is on. Another thing I see people complain about is that the sight is useless when the tritium stops working. This is not true, about the only time the tritium comes into play is in a night vision scenario. If you can see your target there is ambient light and if there is ambient light the fiber optic is picking it up and converting this to a visible dot. I have tested this by taping over the fiber optic and watching the dot all but disappear in a very low light situation. I absolutely love the fact that I have no buttons to press, no knobs to turn or switches to manipulate if things go bad fast and in my experience that's how it all ways happens, I've never had a criminal phone ahead and give me a warning that I would have to stop them at X time. One last thing, the amber is NV compatible, it falls in a wavelength that will not burn up intensifier tubes (per the included manual).
Pros: small, light for it's strtength, very easy to install, zero and use, co-witnessess with AR iron sigts, no batteries, fiber optics auto adjust to light conditions, the included filter works much better than I expected, doesn't wash out as much as I expected.
Cons: Trijicon will not replace the tritium lamp, "bikkini" cover provides good protection but if you remove it in an emergency situation concider it gone, lack of reticle options, would love a green horse shoe or chevron
