Works with the Vortex SPARC II

by Nick, from PA, United States Written on April 28, 2019
I spent a while online trying to confirm that this would actually fit the Sparc II before I decided to take the chance and just order it. It fits well and looks good. It's also the same diameter as the Sparc tube, so you can still use the flip caps that come with the red dot. Trijicon and Tenebraex make quality stuff, so no surprise it's well made and sturdy.

The better questions may be whether on not you actually want a killflash on your red dot. There honestly isn't much need for one on a civilian home defense or general purpose rifle. It does have the added benefit of protecting your front lens without completely occluding your view through the optic like a closed flip cover would. It also slightly darkens your sight picture, which can be good in really bright sun but bad in low light.

You can see the grid if you're looking through it with one eye. With both eyes open (like you should be using any red dot) the grid disappears. It also disappears with a magnifier. The only time I find it really intrusive is when I'm trying to use my iron sights through the optic, as it throws off my ability to focus on the front sight. So if you're using co-witnessed fixed irons or you don't have a quick detach mount for your optic, then this may not be for you.

I obviously didn't use this killflash with an actual Trijicon reflex sight, but I imagine the pros and cons will be the same as with the Sparc II.
Pros:
  • Well made, works with Sparc II
Cons:
  • Not for co-witnessed iron sights
Best Used for:
  • Killing glare and protecting your lens
