James's Review of Trijicon HD XR Night Sight Set

I have a Springfield sub compact and I've been working with a firearms instructor to improve my defensive skills. I was having issues with front sight focus, my instructor recommended the Trijicon HD XR sights. Looked like a good solution. Ordered the sights and shopped for a knowledgeable gunsmith to install them. Picked a father and son team with 36 years of experience. Springfield sights can be difficult to install properly. Had them installed and they worked fine for a couple of weeks. The front sight went dark. I contacted Trijicon and they immediately blamed me for a poor installation. I explained I didn't install them and had used a reputable gunsmith to do the work. They blamed the gunsmith for using the wrong technique. They said I could send the sight to them and they would give me a warranty evaluation in 8-10 weeks. I did an inspection under a 10X magnifier and it was easy to see what happened. The metal was weak and thin on one side of the sight. When the sight was pressed into place it probably warped the sight because of the thin wall to the sight. This stress most likely cracked the tritium tube and the gas slowly leaked out. This is a defect in the sight but Trijicon shows no interest in a quality issue with their sight. My gunsmith explained he has had more and more quality issues with Trijicon products. He has had lenses misaligned out of the package. After this situation he will probably stop installing Trijicon sights. If you purchase these sights carefully inspect the front sight before it's installed. If there are any imperfections send it back immediately, then Trijicon can't blame you for the damage.
