Proven VCOG got an upgrade

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on September 6, 2019
Bombproof, rock solid VCOG now with 8x magnification.

I love how turn key this optic is, everything you need perfectly assembled. Just take it out of the box and mount it on your rifle.

While the reticle isn't my favorite, it definitely gets the job done. On 1x you have a quick acquisition visual and on 8x you have a refined aiming point.

The only thing I don't love is the illumination. I would have preferred center illumination only. Also the illumination seems to be a bit inconsistent (brighter bottom right and dimmer top left).
Most Helpful Positive Review Heavy, but worth every penny
I'll get the minor issues out of the way immediately: (1) The wire loops that hold the turret caps on are a pain; (2) It's heavy at 31.5 oz, but that includes the integral mount, so comparable to other LPVOs plus a mount; (3) The illumination is picked up in tiny spots along the numbering and some of the mil hashes, though it's only noticeable in very low light, and if you have the brightness slightly too high; (4) The magnification dial is slightly stiffer than I'd like; (5) It's too expensive for me to put one on every gun I own! With those out of the way, let me just say that I love this s...

easiest scope i have ever installed

by G, Verified Owner from MA, United States Written on March 26, 2024
Bolted on with the supplied mount and set up at 50 and 100 yards. Took 2 shots at 50 off slight high right then same at 100. A few clicks later was shooting 100 and reset at 200.. very happy with this glass with or without the light.

6.5 Application

by Miller, Verified Owner from SC, United States Written on July 11, 2023
The VCOG having been my first Trijicon optic, has set the bar (very) high in regards to build quality and performance. This thing is an absolute tank. Solid build, precision out of the box. The biggest cons would be weight and relying on batteries but most of us will never notice these affects while firing from a bench setup.
Pros:
  • eye relief and Clarity
  • Rigidly rugid, holds zero, and superior in class clarity
Cons:
  • weight
  • Battery vs Tritium
Best Used for:
  • Rifle application

Awesome and versatile LPVO!

by JasonM, from TN, United States Written on February 23, 2022
The VCOG 1-8x28 is built like a tank. Expected no less from trijicon. The glass is superb as is the eye relief. FFP reticle illuminates daylight bright. Truest 1x power i have seen yet. Can’t say enough good things about it. Get one of you want to run the best.

awesome product

by aznative, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on November 27, 2021
Trijicon makes some of the best glass in the industry. Super clear glass and very rugged. It’s on the heavier side but if you take any optic and add the mount it’s pretty close. It’s pricey but it’ll last a long time. OpticsPlanet is always amazing and super fast shipping. I’m glad I went for it and purchased it. You won’t be disappointed if you are looking to get one.

The big VCOG

by rogers, Verified Owner from NH, United States Written on September 30, 2020
I put this scope on a Q Fix rifle. Its a great focal range for the woods up here in the Northeast. Looks like the biggest gripe about the vcog is the weigh, compare it to a vortex 1-6 with a scope mount It's comparable. The forged housing is unbelievably rugged. The glass is top notch. I'm not sure why this scope isn't more popular. I absolutely recommend it.
Pros:
  • rugged
Cons:
  • price
Best Used for:
  • mid range hunting

First buy for only AR. Why not go with the best?

by J, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on September 12, 2020
First scope I ever bought. Its expensive but worth it for the only AR I ever intend to own. I did extensive online research and found only good reviews. It seems like everything I need now that I have it and it’s mounted. Now, need to sight it in and go to the range!
Pros:

Cons:
  • Heavy

Improvement over 1-6, excellent serious use optic

by Ty, from TX, United States Written on July 22, 2020
The original VCOG is a good optic but this improved and is a great optic. Glass quality is very good and this thing is tough and rugged. The original had the cons of not being bright, heavy, and costly. The brightness has been fixed and offers an Eotech like reticle on 1x. The center dot is a bit small on 1x but the reticle on 8x is great and offers an improvement over the 1-8 Accupower reticle. People will day it’s heavy, and it is but when you factor is has a built in mount and most mounts weight 7 or 8 oz its with in 2-3 oz of other optics when they get a mount. As far as price goes it Is expensive but it’s a 1-8 FFP with a built in mount. I bought this for my work optic since Elcans suck. You can passively aim through nods with this optic. It is water proof to 20m so you don’t have to worry as much for maritime stuff as other LPVO’s.
Pros:
  • reticle
  • daylight bright
  • Durability and dependability
  • Night Vision capabilities
Cons:
  • cost
Best Used for:
  • Military / police snipers
  • Military & LEO, including court officers.

Vcog 1-8 trijicon

by Tj, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on June 9, 2020
My eyes have had a hard time with red dots, so I tried this one and OMG. 1x is like a red dot, with 4 thick bars that match my offset 3.5 inches for close up shots. It’s a bit Of Over kill for my 300 blackout, I see putting it on a 6.5 AR later, it’s worth every penny If you like owning a tank
Pros:
  • 1x is amazing
Cons:
  • I am now poor
Best Used for:
  • 300 blackout ,

Gruntproof Scope

by LDB, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on March 3, 2020
This thing is build like a tank. The only reason it does not get 5 stars is the weight of the optic. I can see why the USMC chose this particular scope. If you run out of ammo in a fight, you can take the scope off the rifle and use it as a club! As a comparison, think of an ACOG, then apply that quality of build and toughness to a 1-8x scope. That is this VCOG. Not the lightest optic, but definitely built to take a beating and keep a zero. Great clarity and the magnification dial is super smooth. I also like that it takes AA batteries.
Pros:
  • Build quality is excellent
  • Glass clarity, magnification range, range of elevation adjustment
  • magnification adjustment
Cons:
  • weight
Best Used for:
  • Military
  • harsh enviroments
  • LEO, Military and Competition
