Faustus's Review of Troy Safety Selector Assembly, Direct Thread, 45deg, Ambi, Semi Auto

The example I received does not exactly match the picture on Optics Planet's website (as of 15 Apr 2019), which does not bother me, because I had seen these safeties before and got what I expected. The main difference between picture and reality is the texture on the levers. The primary lever (left side of receiver, for right-handed shooters) looks and feels almost identical to a standard, mil-spec safety lever, which suits me just fine. The mini-lever for the right side of receiver is approximately the same profile as in the picture, but the nub is stepped not domed—which I would say offers better purchase for manipulation anyway.

The safety did not come with the detent or spring, which is kind of a miss at this price-point; you'll have to re-use your old ones (assuming you are upgrading an existing assembly) or buy those parts separately for a new build.

It is also worth noting that I tried using a Radian Talon in 45-degree alignment with a Geissele G2S trigger, and it did not function correctly—in fire mode there was still some interference between the safety and the trigger group. I had this Troy part on hand for another build, so decided to try it, and it works 100% with the Geissele trigger. Now my only problem is I need to buy another.
Pros:
  • ergonomic
  • well made
  • Ambidextrious
  • Compatibility
Cons:
  • Pricey
  • missing parts
