Not exactly what it was supposed to be.
The hand rail i received did not have the protruding lockup at the receiver like it should. I'm sure this is a redesign to make this rail work with upper receivers other than the matching troy billet upper receiver i bought to go with this rail. It doesn't have anything to keep the rail from rotating out of place other than the castle nut clamps. They discontinued this model by the way. Also there isn't anti rotation feature on the qd spot on the rail. It's the first time I've purchased troy products and I don't think I will in the future. There are better options like MWI, which are much better functionality and are better quality. I can't recommend this product or troy. Disappointed
Pros:
- unique
Cons:
- discontinued product
- Not the best quality
- No features like anti rotation qd
- Changed profile without updating sale photos
Best Used for:
- Not sure, just to have something different but not so functional.

Best free floating Hand guard in the market!
Troy SOCC are the best free floating hand guard in the market. It’s light weight, slimmest, and strong. I got one for an AR built. Planning on get another for my 50 Beowulf upper. All you need is a mil spec barrel nut, make sure you torque barrel nut to spec.
Pros:
- Super slim, super light weight, super strong.
Cons:
- None
Would recommend: Yes
Best free-floating rail on the market
I got this SOCC Troy rail for my AR 9mm built. By far this is the best free floating handguard on the market. Tight lock up and no play. Slim and streamline. You only need a mill-spec barrel nut. Come with everything you need to install it.
Pros:
- Only need a Mill spec barrel nut.
Cons:
- May not work on pistons AR
Best Used for:
- Best used on DI AR 15
Would recommend: Yes
Some people don't know any better
I've owned every single handguard made by troy. This 7.6 SOCC handguard is one of my favorites. It is tight to the recieve when installed properly. If your barrel requires many shims it will leave a gap with the upper like ANY hand guard! Centering is easy as the standard usgi barrel nut will free spin ones inserted all the way before tightenin. This allows easy alignment to top rail on the upper reciever. It needs to be mentioned the indexing stud may impede alignment with upper reciever if you're using a non standard shaped billet reciever.
Pros:
- Smooth, slim, easy to install
Cons:
- Bottom lock nut can loosen without loctite
Best Used for:
- Lightweight PDW/pistol builds
Would recommend: Yes
Tory SOCC PDW
I ordered a Troy SOCC 7.6 inches low profile Handguard. It took over 3 months to come in. When it finally arived I got it install by a certified gunsmith. That’s when I found out that THE RAIL IS OFF CENTER! I tried everything to get it centered, But everything I do ends up with the same result. The gap between the upper receiver and the Handguard is about 1/8 of an inch wide. The rail itself pulls to the left. This product was on backorder and I suspect that Troy was trying to rush their production to meet demand and as a result Quality control suffered. The barrelnut is mil-spec for Troy and the upper receiver is from Aero Precision M4E1 strip upper. And the barrel is from CMMG in 9mm 8 inches long.
