Solid Fuel
I have been using a verity of solid fuels for backpacking for many years. I have four brands in my garage right now. One I quit using years ago because of the smell. One I occasionally use when the size fits my need, and to use it up. The third is Ok for heat and smell, but is difficult to divide when a partial will do. Five Star has the least offensive odor of all I have used. The cubes can be easily divided by scouring on each side and breaking by hand or over a square edge.
I only boil water to reconstitute freeze dried in the back country, so have no idea how it would be to cook with. Solid fuels require about the same weight as white gas but much slower. Safer than gas.
