VERY warm, but...

This thing is VERY warm, could take the place of heavier jackets. Two things I noticed that knocked one star, when zipping this into the Tru-Spec ECWCS parka my left-hand zipper (as you're wearing it) needed to be whittled down a little using the file in my leatherman. Just 3-4 swipes and it slid right in, odd for a YKK zipper but teeth were a perfect match. Collar sticks up maybe 3/4" higher than parka's collar. Would have been nice to have a hood like the parka to function as a liner for that as well. Also the snap to attach the back of the collar to the parka has different size snaps, so it wont snap in correctly there like it may be a better match for the regular parka or the Gen 1 ECWCS but not the Gen 2 ECWCS. Parka snap is large, jacket snap is small. Also, size runs slightly smaller than TRUs. I would worry about next size up being too big, or Long being too long for me though. I read reviews that said sizing went both ways, smallish for one guy largeish for someone else, may be irregular sizing? To be fair, with just a long sleeve shirt it is a perfect fit for me mostly. I have long ape-arms anyway so it may just be me. I'm 6' 190# and ordered Large/Regular in both this jacket and the ECWCS and may have been a little better off in XL/Long but you never know till you order. When installed in the parka the warmth level went up 10x compared to my old M65 field jacket, so I'm really glad I ordered them to replace it.
Pros:
  • Warmth
  • value/durability
Cons:
  • zipper compatability with ECWCS parka
  • collar snap compatability with ECWCS parka
Best Used for:
  • very cold climate parka liner
  • cool climate by itself
