WisHick's Review of TRYBE Defense AR-15 Carbine Buffer & Spring Mil-Spec

I installed this buffer and spring on a 12.5" ar pistol with all "mil-spec" working parts. Upon install I noticed that the spring was significantly more rigid than the other build I did this summer (PSA pistol build kit for full disclosure). When I took it out for its first function check, I was using Wolf 55gr .223 (which is about the only thing i can find these days). The first round fired with no issue, and I saw the casing eject. However, the bolt failed to run far enough back to grab a new round from the mag. I manually cycled the gun and tried again with the same result. The next day I was able to try again with some American Eagle 55gr 5.56 with no issue. I'm docking one star because even with the added gas from the 12.5 barrel compared to the 10.5 I built last summer, the added strength of the spring prevents the use of cheap .223. To be clear, I have only run the Wolf .223 in the 10.5 with no issues.
Pros:
  • Good protective coating on the spring
Cons:
  • Spring is too stiff to run cheap ammo in a pistol
Best Used for:
  • 5.56 running and gunning
