Most Helpful Positive Review Trybe Grendel 6.5 BCG
Ordered Wednesday and got it Friday good job Opticsplanet. As for the BCG I can compare it to my Toolcraft BCG and I could say it matches pretty good. Some machining marks don't bother me. Nice smooth finish. I like the somewhat modular design. Once I get my weekend build completed and gets to shoot...

Most Helpful Negative Review Will not chamber.
Setup for Saturn barrel. Checked with go/ no go gauges. Good to go. Still Will not chamber. Will not fire. Switched BCG with Odin one I had in another rifle. It fired and cycled. Unsure of what issue is with bcg. Ended up ordered a Saturn Bcg through Maxim Firearms. Can’t return item since it wa...

Extractor broke after less than 100 rounds

by Aric Ronaldo, Verified Owner from AL, United States Written on July 11, 2026
This was purchased in December of 2024 and not used until the spring of 2026. The gun shot well for the first time out but only ran about 7 or 8 10-round magazines through it. The second time out, it stopped extracting the case around the second magazine into shooting it. After pulling the BCG and inspecting the bolt, it was discovered that the edge of the extractor, which grabs the edge of the case, was broken off. While it was a manufacturer problem, I’m really impressed how Optics Planet called me personally after I reported the warranty claim to Trybe. Although it is not their problem, Optics Planet values their customers and wants to address problems, and while I wind by another BCG from Trybe, Optics Planet will remain my go-to place since their service is so good when others are so bad.
Pros:
  • Looks nice
Cons:
  • unrealiable

Update No. 2

by PstCntrl, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on December 9, 2025
Well, it's been months since someone reached out to me. All I have are months-old promises and assurances that "we're looking into it". No other effort to remedy the situation, and no other communications.

FWIW I am still using the carriers, with the proper bolts from Grendel Hunter, zero hiccups so far. But you can get a complete 556 BCG for less, if you just need to scavenge the carrier.

UPDATE: Trybe Defense reached out to me within days

by PstCntrl, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on August 12, 2025
Props to Trybe, a gentleman from them reached out within a couple of days of my review, genuinely trying to figure out the issue, requesting photos, and a description of what's happening. He made sure we're talking about Grendel Type II across the board (yes, we are).

I am very impressed. This seems genuine and not just "here's a replacement" or some other freebie. While a replacement was promised, the understanding is that they'll try to address the design, to make sure the product works. I'll take that as a win (when completed). Everyone goes through issues, defects or mistakes. It's the way they handle it that matters at the end of the day.

Looking forward to see what they end up doing.

I WILL 100% POST AN UPDATE ONCE THERE'S SOMETHING TO REPORT.

Not working with Grendel

by PstCntrl, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on August 8, 2025
I have a nice Stag Arms Pursuit 15 upper in 6.5 Grendel. It's an 18" barrel with rifle length gas system. Purchased as complete upper and paired with a complete premium Diamondback lower, their "Diamond" line. Very nice. Using AAC 123 gr ammo, brass casings, never used steel.

Being completely new to Grendel, when I started having issues, I thought it was the upper, maybe not enough gas, or way too much. Even spoke to Stag Arms, who were willing to help, but it took me a while to get back out to the range to test more, so that was on hold for a few months.

After reading up on this issue online, I started suspecting the bolt, and especially the extractor. I purchased two of these Trybe Defense complete BCG's with 6.5 Grendel bolts, and both of those were not functioning - failures to extract, ejection issues, double feeds, bent casing neck, etc. I also tried swapping in a Cryptic 6.5 Grendel extractor from Optics Planet - same issues. I've tried buffer weights from H3 all the way down to stock carbine buffer 3 oz (suspecting that maybe there's too much gas - sometimes that can look like not enough gas).

After learning that Grendel extractors need to have a certain geometry, especially to avoid having "claws" or "fangs" (sharp corners) that grab onto the rim and prevent smooth ejection, I ordered two complete bolts from Grendel Hunter. Ran 40 rounds of the same ammo flawlessly, with different magazines. The Trybe carriers themselves work just fine, it was only the bolt and ex...

Received with a chip in a rail

by Me, Verified Owner from KY, United States Written on December 4, 2024
First off, even with out a chip in the steel on of one of the rails, this thing is horrible looking. Its full of machining marks. I was really on the fence about sending it back due to price until I seen the chip out of the rail. I will say that It most likely came from shipping. It was just thrown in a bag and shipped USPS.
Pros:
  • Cheap
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • paper weight
