I wanted a scope for my 9.3 x 62 Mauser which I use for Sambar deer (similar size to elk) in heavily wooded country opening out onto fertile river flats. Shots vary from sudden close range bursts from cover to 250 yard hots at stationary animals in the early morning. I had read good things about the Vanguard scopes function and high quality Hoya lenses which encouraged me to buy one sight unseen.

Since the scope arrived I have had a chance to form my own opinions. First impressions are of a solid well made scope. The optics are good and sharp and there is no tunnel effect on the lower powers. There is slight deformation on the edges of the field of view at 1X but it is not so great as to be destracting and would never effect the usage of the scope in rapid use situations. I did find the illumination of the center dot to be very dull but reasonably usable in poor light. Overall I like the scope and do not regret buying it.
