Expected better for the price - Vanguard Endeavor 20-60x82mm HD 82A Spotting Scope

I would like to say that I am not an optics expert but was able to compare this scope side by side with a few other optics. First the fit and feel of the scope feels very well made , I like the included cover and was able to receive a vanguard tripod for free (good tripod). I bought this scope for spotting shots at long range shooting (700 to 1100 yards on painted white steel targets). I was able to see impacts on my steel targets all the way to 1100 yards. Now the reason I am giving it 2 stars and not recommending this scope is, I compared it to a friend's Leopold sx1 (less expensive scope then the vanguard). I placed a small 3x 5 inch flag with some writing on it out at 220 yards and the Leopold had much better resolution at higher magnification (above 40 up to 60). I mean it was not even close , I was able to read the writing perfectly with the leupold and not able to read it at all with the vanguard. The magnification on the vanguard is not useable above 40, losses resolution and not able to focus in order to make picture clear. The Leopold did not have the fine adjustment knob but the magnification was usable up to 60x The Leopold was the 20x to 60x x 80mm and the vanguard endeavor hd waa the 82mm model. I also compared the vanguard to an older pair of apoogo 100 mm 25x binos and was able to make out writing better then with my vanguard. If I would not have compared side by side with other optics I probably would have been happy with the vanguard but I am not when a less expensive scope blows it away (Not even close unfortunately).
