The Vanguard VEO 2 Pro 233CO Tripod seems well-suited for my needs. It's not as solid as my Manfrotto tripod but at half the weight it will make traveling by air a whole lot nicer. Being lighter it is not as stable as the Manfrotto and the panning head is not quite as smooth so I will continue to use the Manfrotto when I bird locally. Attaching my Swarovski 80mm scope is a bit tricky but doable and secure. Folded down this tripod just fits in a 22" carry-on. I fly to AZ in a few weeks. The Vanguard is coming along and I'm hoping I will find it suitable in the field.
