Does not work for cz p01 - Vara Safety Reach Firearm Safe

I can only speak to the CZ-75 P01 sleeve for the Vara Safety Reach. I ordered the version stating it would work with the CZ-P01. With children in the house and this going to be an exposed firearm (although still hidden from view) I needed to be confident the minuscule chance I would need quick access to my firearm would outweigh the higher chance of my kids having access to a loaded gun. I set it up, which was easy; and played with the biometric scanner, which worked very well even with the single master print.

But when I locked my (unloaded) P01 in it and pulled...it came out rather easy. This was because the brass bar designed to hold the gun by not blocking the trigger guard did not stick far enough into the trigger guard and was able to slide by it. I contacted Vara Safety and they were quick to respond and said they had recalled this particular sleeve and had the replacement shipped in the mail the next day.

When I got the new sleeve, it fit closer to the holster which allowed the brass bar to stick out further. Again, I tried to pull the gun out, and although harder with the new sleeve; I was still able to. I could put enough sideways pressure to flex the sleeve enough allowing the trigger guard to slide past the brass bar while the reach was still locked. I marred the finish on my gun by doing this, but much better to mar my gun and know I can’t trust this to keep it away from my children.

I contacted Vara again and they said there must be something wrong with my particular unit, but the unit remained locked and fully functional and nothing appeared wrong. Either way, QA/QC should be critical on something with the potential consequences of arming a curious, or worse, a troubled kid.

It obviously isn’t as secure as A traditional safe bolted to the floor, but I would expect the thing to break before releasing the gun. It is designed to keep the honest people honest, but I was a teenager once, and I wasn’t exactly honest with my parents, and if I had found a gun in my parents room, I don’t think I’d be able to resist trying to pull it out.

Again, I can’t speak towards the other sleeves for other gun manufacturers, or even other CZ models, but this product has no place in my home.
