I purchased this for my Weatherby Model 307 Range XP, upgrading from the composite stock. I also went with the MDT CCS buttock in same FDE color with black MDT grip. Finish and color are high quality, the FDE color of the Cerakoted aluminum chassis and composite buttock match perfectly.
From purchased configuration to completed chassis build took 15 minutes at most and looks fantastic. I read that some will still bed these despite MDT stating you don’t need to. There is zero play and in my first trip out with it, I was sub MOA at 100 yards with factory and a couple of my ladder load test 3 shot groups were touching so I do not plan to bed. I can’t speak to accuracy improvements over the factory configuration as I didn’t get the chance to shoot it before moving it to the chassis.
I really wanted to like this. More for the range than anything, but having less bulk than a traditional holster was enticing. I ended up returning it because whatever spacer combo I tried, it just didn’t quite fit right with my CZ P01. I would imagine it would work really well with a firearm the spacers were right for.
This thing saved me at least ten minutes and a bunch of water for each brass wash I do. I used to try to get the media out/off of every piece of brass, now I just run this thing over it a few times and transfer the media back into the wash cylinder.
I can only speak to the CZ-75 P01 sleeve for the Vara Safety Reach. I ordered the version stating it would work with the CZ-P01. With children in the house and this going to be an exposed firearm (although still hidden from view) I needed to be confident the minuscule chance I would need quick access to my firearm would outweigh the higher chance of my kids having access to a loaded gun. I set it up, which was easy; and played with the biometric scanner, which worked very well even with the single master print.
But when I locked my (unloaded) P01 in it and pulled...it came out rather easy. This was because the brass bar designed to hold the gun by not blocking the trigger guard did not stick far enough into the trigger guard and was able to slide by it. I contacted Vara Safety and they were quick to respond and said they had recalled this particular sleeve and had the replacement shipped in the mail the next day.
When I got the new sleeve, it fit closer to the holster which allowed the brass bar to stick out further. Again, I tried to pull the gun out, and although harder with the new sleeve; I was still able to. I could put enough sideways pressure to flex the sleeve enough allowing the trigger guard to slide past the brass bar while the reach was still locked. I marred the finish on my gun by doing this, but much better to mar my gun and know I can’t trust this to keep it away from my children.
I contacted Vara again and they said there must be something wrong with my pa
