Joe's Review of Vertx Gamut 2.0 Backpack

So overall I think this is a really good backpack. Now that that is out of the way. Some issues do exist with it.
The side pockets are sold as a side pocket and a water bottle holder, but the reality is that it is one or the other. Not both. If you store stuff in the side pocket it bulges into the center of the stretch pocket and you can no longer fit drinks in it. Conversely if you put a water bottle in you can't use the interior storage there. I have no idea how to fix that, but it is a bummer for sure. I ended up using one side pocket for "stuff" and the other for drinks.
The main pocket is not actually all that big honestly. I use this for my EDC and find myself having to make choices on what to pack and what not. For work it is no problem, but when I go out for the day with my little kids it definitely is problematic. I get by without any real issues, but it is something to be aware of. Maybe in the next version you could add stretch materials so you can fit a bit more in there?
On the front of the backpack I have a bunch of stuff, first aid kit (which with littles gets used once in awhlie), pens, my knife, leatherman, flashlight, etc. That is the most useful feature I use. I also like that I can expand it out with the two straps so I can throw in blankets or jackets when the kids abandon them, or even my own coat if I go to work knowing it will be raining later and will need it. The only downside is that when I do not use I find the system for stowing the two straps is less than ideal. They do become unattached regularly and that makes zipping a pain.
The conceal section itself is great, works exactly as advertised and the giant zipper handle is awesome.
The straps are great, very comfortable, and great weight distribution. Makes carrying this thing with or without being loaded down a breeze.
The laptop slot in the main pouch is actually pretty brilliant. It does not go all the way to the bottom of the backpack so when you drop your backpack down there is a gap to prevent the laptop from hitting the ground. A+ for this feature.
Finally, the pocket on the very top is pretty straightforward, it is... a pocket on the top. It holds stuff you need quick regular access to like masks, eye drops, or whatever it may be.

I would definitely recommend this backpack, next time I personally will get the size up, but that is just because I use this so much with 4 kids in tow.
