RT81's Review of Viking Tactics VTAC Combat Suspenders

These suspenders were purchased with EDC/CCW in mind. Think of these less as "suspenders" and more of "minimalist LBV". In most cases, I like to wear suspenders over my undershirt to provide more support for my belt when I'm carrying concealed. Depending on where I'm going and what I'm planning on doing, I may also have other things on my belt -- a spare magazine, a knife/multitool pouch, a cellphone pouch, etc. I figured these suspenders would be a nice upgrade to what I had. And to that end, I can say they're VERY well made. Very high quality material. They seem like they would last along time, however, these suspenders have one large flaw.

You can see this flaw if you watch the youtube video where Kyle Lamb demonstrates how to put these on. They're designed to hook onto your belt loops at 3 and 9 o'clock. This is prime belt real estate that you have now taken up with these suspenders. Want to carry IWB at 3 o'clock? Good luck. Your suspenders are now OVER the grip of your handgun. Want to carry that spare mag IWB at 9 o'clock? Nope. Now you have to fumble around your suspenders to yank that mag out of the pouch. Basically, anything you want to carry at 3 and 9 o'clock interferes with the suspenders, ESPECIALLY if you're carrying IWB. Even outside on your belt you get some interference.

This can be remedied somewhat by using the included belt loops provided. You can attach the suspenders a bit farther back on your belt. However, if you do that they won't support your pants as well and you're still taking up belt real estate with those large belt loops. It also becomes a pain to wear them because it's just another thing you have to loop onto your belt.

I got my set on sale on DVOR and didn't pay full price. There are TONs of other options out there on Optics Planet alone. My suggestion would be to get suspenders that attach at the front and back of your belt/pants instead of the sides (unless you're appendix carrying, of course). I have a set of inexpensive Rothco suspenders that cost $12 to $16 and can be bought just about anywhere (they're on Optics Planet too) and those have held up for several years now of EDC/CCW. The will chew up our pants because they attach with metal teeth, but they're cheap and effective.

In short, look elsewhere for EDC/CCW suspenders.
Pros:
  • top notch quality
  • Sturdy and strong
Cons:
  • Attach at two points on your belt line in such a way to interfere with things on your belt.
Best Used for:
  • Would work fine for appendix carry
  • Would work if you have nothing at 3 and 9 o'clock on your belt
Would Recommend: No
