Mr J's Review of Vism 2963 Series Expert Plate Carrier w/ Two Ballistic Plates

The last time I HAD to wear any type of personal protective ballistic equipment was over 10 years ago in the ARMY. Having said that this vest seemed to be a good civilian version of the kit we used during my “high speed low drag” days. It’s a bit lighter due to the softer material of the plates and less cumbersome since i also not carrying/wearing a ruck, ammo, water and rifle. It’s modularity and expandability is clear giving the various MOLLE cuts, hook/loop, areas, buckles and “bellyband” that can accommodate side plates or other gear and equipment. I’m (+/-) 6ft (71.5”) tall weigh about 215 and currently wear this daily (when working). Can’t speak to its true durability as I’ve never been struck by any incoming fire (knock wood) but as I said I feel @ least as safe and secure in this rig as I did with my old GI kit that was likely bought in bulk from the lowest bidding vendor our quartermaster could source. I do plan on acquiring 3 more (as bugout/end of days prep) and upgrading to level IV, however, until then I would recommend this vest as a good entry level buy you can expand or customize as you like.
Pros:
  • Versality, coolness, utility
  • wont break the bank
  • Low level threat protection
Cons:
  • low level threat protection
  • semi discreet when worn under clothing/uniform
Best Used for:
  • Low risk/threat environments
  • entry level kit option
Would Recommend: Yes
