So far so good... - VISM Expert Range Bags

First and foremost, one should know what they need in a medium to large sized ammo bag. With that said, this puppy is large..."big" would be a better descriptor. In my case, that's what I wanted and it works for me. BUT, my next bag will truly be a medium due to the challenges that come with a large bag...mainly the strap noted below, and inability to have a small footprint when needed.

The bag has a good selection of what I call useable slots and pockets. I have not found any of them to be too small...and also not to large. I have tried it with boxes of ammo, the plastic ammo boxes, and even plastic jars that I found that work well for practice ammo for me and the kids. I even use one of the long side pocket on one side to carry my folded over Keltec Sub2000, while putting pistols on the over side. My only wish, and it's not a knock, would be velcro pockets within the side zipper pockets to secure pistols and valuables. It makes it that much harder for anything to fall out. Overall, I would give the pocket selection 5 stars.

Now back to the size. The bag is so large that making good use of all the pockets and slots comes at a small price...your shoulder and back. So be ready for a pretty heavy carry if you load it up with ammo, tools, etc. Thus with the ability for this bag to carry so much, the should strap could be much better. It's a basic strap can can double up if you adjust it so, but overall it could be better and tends to dig into your should. Also the adjustment rig/buckle is lacking a bit (IMHO) under normal circumstances, thus under a heavy load, it has not worked well for me all all. It does not stay adjusted nor "locked" in place. I say "locked" as there is not true stop slip, just the little bar that you pull and try and lock. The strap and buckle bug me to the point that I am considering returning the the bag, or retiring it to be part of my home tools and range staging. Thus the straps get a one star.

Price point...I almost forgot this one. IMHO, it's very well priced for what you get. Add a better shoulder strap, charge $10 to $15 more, and I still believe it would be a well priced quality bag. 5 stars for the price. Again, I believe one is getting a ton for the price.

Overall, I really like the bag part of the bag. The three stars is basically due to two stars lost due to the strap. With such a large bag, the strap is a key component, thus a two star hit. But it can be over come if I/you find a better strap at a decent price.
