ThatGuy's Review of VISM Glock Pro Tool w/ Multiple QD Tool Bits

I was relatively excited about this tool. I'm in general weary of specific-purpose multi-tools (like the Real Avid AR-15 and pistol tools, which I tried and didn't find all that useful), but in this case the compact format and good tool selection made it worth considering. Plus, I've had good experience with VISM tools in the past, so I thought this would be a decent tool for low cost. However, on receipt I was pretty let down.

First of all, there was the dreaded clam-shell packaging. In other words, you can't just repackage it in its original condition if you don't like the tool and want to return it. You have to cut the packaging open. I really wish it would have came in a cardboard box like so many other VISM items I've tried.

Then, on opening it, the poor quality was immediately evident. On the metal locking ring, the casting is so thin it has holes in it - seriously. The rubber molding is dirty and poorly executed, and it looks like it had been rolling around on a dirty garage floor with blackish stains in the blue rubber. The body has scratches from poor handling or mold defects, I'm not sure which. And probably the worst part, there's a big roll-pin sticking out of the side that can't be pushed back in. I suppose that the rubber molding should have covered it perhaps, but in either case that roll-pin sticking out is so blatant I have no idea how this passed quality control. And the fact that it's seized in place and I can't hammer it back in without potentially damaging the pin or the tool means I have to either live with it or return the tool.

As far as the tools, well they look like cheap Harbor Freight-style free tools. Serviceable, but certainly not exceptional or durable. The concept is good but the black-oxide coating is so thin they already had the finish worn in some places straight out of the packaging. If they're made out of the same pot-metal as the tool's locking ring, which was so thin that there were literal holes in the casting, then I'm not too confident about them, but you'll probably get at least one or two uses out of them. Specially for tools like the liner pusher or remover. However if you have a stuck front sight screw, I wouldn't be so confident.

All in all, I was real let down. I expected more since I regard VISM positively (for a budget brand). If you just need to install or remove a channel liner and this is the cheapest tool you find, it'll do. Just make sure you get it cheap and don't expect to get too much use out of it.
Pros:
  • Great concept
Cons:
  • Poor manufacturing quality
  • Horrible quality control
  • Unresealable clam-shell packaging
Best Used for:
  • Cheap gift for a stranger
