Basic quality low-profile gas block

Written on Nov 21, 2020

It's a gas block - basically what you're expecting. The quality is good and the finish is good. More likely than not it'll be hidden under the handguard, so it's not like it's a huge factor. That said, it's not ugly. Being steel it'll likely outlast the rifle. All in all, it's a gas block, and if you need one, this model should do your right.

Great product

Written on Jun 20, 2020

This punch feels great in the hand and has the perfect size tip for punching out stubborn takedown pins without marring or damage. My only complaint is that it isn't a great value compared to alternatives. These must take pennies to churn out, and I'd love to have a dozen or more for every toolbox and range bag, but at this price that would add up. Sure, I'm being a bit uptight, but my other plastic punches are half a dozen for two bucks so it makes this a tougher sell. All in all, I still recommend it of course. I'll be keeping an eye on it for the next sale.

Why bother with anything else?

Written on May 04, 2020

This tube is made out of hardened Stainless Steel. It's smooth, doesn't have any defects and the dimensions are precise. Why in the world would I pay more for antything else? I also ordered an Odin Works Gas Tube for around 50% more, but I didn't like it as much because the plug on the muzzle end is visible, instead of welded and sanded flush like on this one.

All in all, a gas tube is a gas tube. You're better off saving some money here and spending it on some other stupidly expensive part on your rifle that you'll at least enjoy more than a gas tube.

Must have for the spare parts bin

Written on Feb 14, 2020

For better or worse, the extractor is one of the parts most likely to break on your bolt. Together with a spare firing pin, it's something that is just good to have. While it probably is almost most cost effective and convenient to buy a spare cheap Bolt Carrier Group (PSA, I'm looking at you), sometimes it's hard to justify when you just need a single component - like when you end up turning that spare cheap BCG into a spare cheap backup rifle... Like the saying goes: "Don't tell Mere".

In any case, this is a pretty simple part. It's what you'd expect, with decent quality and nothing salient whatsoever about it. It fits, it works, and you won't notice it for thousands of rounds to come. 'Nuff said.

Good quality cheap replacement

Written on Jan 03, 2020

I bought this magazine catch as it was cheapest version I could find. I wanted to use it to replace a supposedly higher-quality Lone Wolf Distributors Extended Magazine Catch, which I detested - it was poking at my hand making even gripping the pistol uncomfortable. I expected to mod this component with a Dremel to my liking, but to be honest I was pretty satisfied with the part as-is.

It sticks out enough to be perfectly accessible, without poking your hand like the LWD part I was replacing. It also fits the lines of the Polymer 80 frame a lot better than the other part, making it look less out of place. It doesn't have any branding, which I prefer for a part like this. And the price was the cheapest around, making it perfect for an affordable replacement or to keep as a spare part. Once installed, it's unremarkable in the good sense, as in it feels like it should and is not distracting you in any way when you actuate it.

The only negative is that on one corner there was a defect from the mold not getting 100% filled during manufacturing. Not a big deal, and only noticeable if you look at it up close, but it keeps the part from being 100% perfect.

All in all I'm glad with the part, and I ordered another as a spare. I can't think of any reason not to go for this part if you needed.

Great concept, poor execution.

Written on Jan 03, 2020

I was relatively excited about this tool. I'm in general weary of specific-purpose multi-tools (like the Real Avid AR-15 and pistol tools, which I tried and didn't find all that useful), but in this case the compact format and good tool selection made it worth considering. Plus, I've had good experience with VISM tools in the past, so I thought this would be a decent tool for low cost. However, on receipt I was pretty let down.

First of all, there was the dreaded clam-shell packaging. In other words, you can't just repackage it in its original condition if you don't like the tool and want to return it. You have to cut the packaging open. I really wish it would have came in a cardboard box like so many other VISM items I've tried.

Then, on opening it, the poor quality was immediately evident. On the metal locking ring, the casting is so thin it has holes in it - seriously. The rubber molding is dirty and poorly executed, and it looks like it had been rolling around on a dirty garage floor with blackish stains in the blue rubber. The body has scratches from poor handling or mold defects, I'm not sure which. And probably the worst part, there's a big roll-pin sticking out of the side that can't be pushed back in. I suppose that the rubber molding should have covered it perhaps, but in either case that roll-pin sticking out is so blatant I have no idea how this passed quality control. And the fact that it's seized in place and I can't hammer it back in without potentially damag

Fits fine, but the branding is cringy

Written on Aug 15, 2019

All in all it's a grip plug. I like it more than the previous version as it's sleeker, but the branding is really cringy and puts me off. I have no idea why they felt the need to put the brand in stand-out lettering on the bottom. I definitely won't be buying an extra unit because of it.

As far as fit, it fit fine and quite snugly in my A2 grip. No complaints there.

Once they remove the branding it would be a 5 star niche product. It's a real pity that they voluntarily screwed up something so simple.

Good 'ol A2 Flash Hider

Written on Jul 14, 2019

When something works, don't screw it up.

While there are definitely better flash hiders out there, there are a lot more that will perform as good or worse and cost a lot more. For a basic AR build where you just need something practical and affordable to put on the business end your weapon, you really can't beat an A2 bird-cage flash hider. And Radical Firearms is a well established business in the industry, so I have zero reservations ordering from them. Even though it's just a flash hider, it's reassuring to know that if something goes wrong, they have responsive CS that will taker care of you.

As far as performance, it's just as you'd expect. It does a good-enough job of diffusing flash, and a good-enough job of reducing muzzle climb. Doesn't do all that much for recoil, but doesn't hurt, either. All in all, it's a good unit. And at this price, I bought a spare to keep in my parts box just in case.

Poor quality control but excellent price

Written on Jun 05, 2019

I've got mixed feelings about this pouch. The design and price is great, but the quality control sucks. I ordered two units and both had real sloppy stitching and one had a stitch fail completely.

On the bright side it's dirt cheap. I couldn't buy the materials for as cheap as this costs assembled, so I suppose one has to take that into account. It fits a standard CAT tourniquet and trauma shears well enough, albeit tightly. Removal isn't as quick or easy as some other models like Condor's tourniquet pouch, but it's okay.

As far as cons, the two horizontal buckles on the back aren't removable (nor is the molle strap), so whichever mounting method you choose you're going to have the bulk and hassle of the other buckles on the rear doing nothing. That makes this pouch slightly less versatile than other models. And like mentioned before, the quality leaves quite a bit to desire.

All in all, if you need half a dozen pouches for backup bags, this is a great deal for the price. But I'd probably choose something a bit nice for my main bag. Now if they up the quality control, I'd be happy to reassess.

Not perfect, but an excellent option to have on the market

Written on Jan 31, 2018

Honestly, unless you really have no other choice (and a lot of people don't), I wouldn't recommend "shirt carry", though I'll admit that was never how I intended to use this product.

Actually, I wanted this to sew to the inside of my motorcycle jacket for "motorcycle carry", hehe. And it worked beautifully. I'm left handed, and I wanted to cross-draw so I purchased the left-handed holster to sew to the inside of the right side of my jacket. It fits anything bigger than an LCP, being perfect for 1911s and S&W M&P Shields. We can debate whether carrying a pistol in a motorcycle jacket is safe or not, but if you're riding on two wheels your options were limited to begin with. Security wise, well, obviously it doesn't grip the pistol or protect the trigger as much as any kydex holster, but it's good enough. The best part probably is that if you're not wearing a pistol, the "holster" is unnoticeable and doesn't even look like a holster.

All in all, I'm glad this product is available. Might not be the right solution for a majority of people, but it sure does have it's uses.
