Surprisingly Good for the Price
As a retired military member who's been building my own AR-15s about 5 years, I took a chance and ordered a tan VISM L2 box from Optics Planet on a whim. I was impressed with the construction--it doesn’t feel “airsofty.” Of course I wouldn't put it up against pricey mil-spec laser illuminators such ...

Budget item. It works, for the most part
I bought two of these. Just for a simple .22 inside 50yds. 1 works fine. The other needs a little time to get the laser to full brightness. When they are at full, they are definitely BRIGHT GREEN. That's nice. The little flashlight on the opposite side is good for almost nothing , but it doesn't hu...

Weak led light
The green laser is nice and bright and the over all build is strong. But the LED lights are too weak to be used at all.

it's no Steiner... but it's worth what you pay for it...
I have 2 of these VISM designators. 1 is an older model and it's ROCK SOLID! No issues. I run it on a 9mm PDW. Holds zero like a champ. However, this new model, not so much... The adjustment set screws literally wobble in the casting. That's a fail.
As for the beam brightness and power consumption, it's stands right alongside my Steiners (USA) and Holosuns (China). No complaints. But the overall build is just subpar and inferior. It's not something I'd trust in a real fight under real conditions. It just points in the general direction of your gun fire.
Given the price point, you get what you pay for.

Laser is great....and thats about it.
When i first got the package, i was really impressed with the construction of the overall unit. The box is a nice bit of aluminum. However, the light is not great. In my opinion its not even a good nav light as its advertised to be. The switch that it comes with is already broken and ive only used my gun a couple of times and I have to pinch the cord in a specific spot to get the switch to work. The buttons work on the box, but the switch is no longer functional. The laser is super bright and fantastic. Save your money and buy something else.
Pros:
- laser
Cons:
- Nav light and switch

Can't handle 5.56 recoil
This stopped working the first time I took it out shooting. I probably put 90-120 rounds of M855 through my rifle and the laser started blinking off whenever I fired rounds and then didn't turn on at all. Definitely seems recoil related. And before you ask, yes, I checked the battery. This would be a pretty sweet sight for a .22 or maybe airsoft. I bought mine from a local gun store, not Optics Planet, but same model. Spend a little more and buy a SightMark if you want a good budget sight.
Pros:
- None
Cons:
- can't handle recoil.
Best Used for:
- .22 or airsoft

Good for the price
Everybody says the light is too dull. But it’s a navigation light. It’s not meant to illuminate targets. The laser works good for the most part. I’m not sure if I got a lemon or what. But if I clamp it on too tight sometimes the laser and light won’t get bright. Then I take it off the gun and it works perfect. So I would say it’s a good laser for plinking and a good place to start. But I wouldn’t want to rely on this in a life or death situation. I use it on my 566 and it has no problems holding center. You can take it off and clamp it back on and it holds a solid group. 7/10
Pros:
- Cheap
- bright
Cons:
- Unrelaible
Best Used for:
- plinking

Good Budget Laser
This is a pretty basic, decent budget laser. I didn't get it from Optics Planet, it was a birthday gift. The laser flashes off when I fire my rifle. It doesn't seem to like the recoil from an AR15. It was off for a couple minutes and wouldn't come back on after some rapid fire. It works now. It works well to get rounds in the right general area, but I wouldn't rely on this as a primary sight.
Pros:
- Inexpensive
- Bright laser
Cons:
- doesn't like recoil
Best Used for:
- backup sight

Great sight!
Solid build. (Doesn't feel like a cheaply made plastic model for airsoft rifles that comes from China) :)
Laser was RIGHT ON, no adjustments necessary.
LOVE the navigation light, choice of colors is a very nice touch and very handy.
Fantastic, can't beat it for the price!

Not bad but not great either
At first glance I wasn't unimpressed. It was packaged well and the device appeared solid and well built. The quick detach clamped on well and you're able to make adjustments to it if needed. The green laser was bright and had good reach. Your able to have the laser on, constant or intermittent as needed through the remote pad or built in controls. Now the light is another story. I'm able to illuminated the room more with my cell phone than the on board light of this device. I can say that it has cool factor to it because you can change the color of the light from white, red, blue and green. Not too bad if you're in zero light conditions and need a little illumination to navigate and dont want to give away your position. For proper illumination you're going to have to add an additional weapons light. Now Going back to the laser, the windage and elevation adjustments are weak and extremely sub par. It moves fine when tightening but doesn't budge when loosening. The screw actually came off the threads trying to adjust the laser. I had to bang on it a few times to try to make it move. On the bright side I did finally get it zeroed in but cringing to the thought if I have to readjust.
Pros:
- Well built, laser is bright with good reach, and clamps on really well
Cons:
- None

Great Budget DBAL look alike
Not a Steiner DBAL unit but at a fraction of the price. The VISM QR Laser Designator Box with Green Laser Sight is a great entry level accessory for a budget AR15. It looks good and does its job and holds zero. Would definitely recommend. Not a DBAL but not at 700+ usd either.
Pros:
- GREAT PRICE
Cons:
- None

Great for the average Joe but not for a Pro.
This laser feels solid and mounts easily. The green laser is visible during the daytime. I don't see it holding up over a long period of time or if it were being used for professional use. my number one complaint about it is the mounting mechanism. Its cheaply made and almost broke when i was removing it. All in all, its good for the price.

- Recreation
