Possibly the best AR Upper receiver out there
I now have 3 of these. The first 2 I purchased to build "accuracy uppers" with. One is a 6.8 with a White Oak 18" barrel and shoot's 1/3" groups with several loads. The other is a .22 Nosler upper with an Odin Works 18" bbl that also groups under 1/3" with several different loads. The quality of the...

VLTOR MUR “B stock”
Upper receiver arrived quickly, but looks like what I would consider a factory second. The cut along the bottom of the receiver has dings that will be especially apparent once it’s on a lower. Looks like it was tossed into a bin before it went to anodizing. There’s an engraving on top of the rail of...

The standard for upper receivers
There’s a reason other reputable manufacturer, such as Noveske and others Use this upper and just stamp their logo on it. This upper(And it’s corresponding lower) Should be the standard receivers for all ARs.

vltor upper receiver
Looks great shipped fast. I got a Roscoe barrel for it which doesn’t fit super snug but not super loose. Other than that great quality

Well made product that's perfect for a high quality build
Durable and well machined. Not really much changed visually from milspec but does have signs of unique parts here and there.
Simply does it's job well and doesn't let you down. Vltor makes quality products.

Vltor MUR AR15 UPPER Receiver
The Vltor MUR AR15 UPPER Receiver is a quality product that did not require honing of the receiver face, although shimming of the barrel extension on BSF carbon fiber barrel was required. Fitment to a standard lower required minimum fitment modifcation.
Pros:
- increased potential rigidity for accuracy
Cons:
- Slightly heavier due to increased structure
Would recommend: Yes

Seems well made
I ordered VLTOR Upper because it had beefed up wall thickness and the Forward Assist button is moved forward to clear the Charging Handle. I didn’t want to pay more for billet. It mated to AP M4E1 pretty good but there is a very little play at forward pin. The lower has a tension screw on back Take Down Pin but if you put tension on Take Down Pin to completely eliminate play then you can’t remove Pin. The tension screw is cover by grip so it’s not easy to access. Interior was machined very slick and dry film lube. Matched up well with Geissele Handrail. Faxon Gunner Barrel was very tight tolerance fit, exactly what I expected.

Love this upper!
I purchased this from the recommendations of the other reviews. And boy was I impressed! It’s a “take no prisoners” tough little part. Somehow it makes the standard “forged look” look good. I’m more than impressed with the craftsmanship and ease of use. I’ll always recommend this piece to anyone who will listen to my opinion. Love it!
Pros:
- Ease of use
- durable
- tough
- ease of assembly
- Craftsmanship
Cons:
- Price is more expensive than a lot of other uppers
Best Used for:
- Anything but a lightweight build.

One of the best uppers around
I only buy the VLTOR MURS uppers when I am doing a "keeper" build. You can go with a matched billet upper/lower but why pay the extra money when this really is the best upper available. In my opinion they work best when you are going for either an accuracy build or a competition gun.

Don't Think About It
If your looking for an upper receiver with a little extra strength this is the one you want. This is my 3rd AR and every one of them is sporting this upper receiver. The fit and finish is amazing and it really gives your AR a mean look. It's very well machined and always to specs. If your looking for a top of the line stripped upper you found it. Just make sure your rail system will work with this upper some rail systems don't work with this upper. I personally use nothing but Daniel Defense rails and have never had an issue with them. I would highly recommend this upper receiver ESPECIALLY for long, heavy barrel or precision AR's. Doesn't mean you can't use it for a regular carbine which I do and will continue to use Vltor, pronounced Ultor.
Pros:
- Material
- extremely durable
- Thicker than basic models
Cons:
- weight
Best Used for:
- everything
