TheGDog's Review of Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32mm Rifle Scope, 1in Tube, Second Focal Plane

Mounted this on a Marlin 336 with a DNZ one-piece "Medium" height mount. If you get a scope with an eyepiece any bigger than this one, you'll want to order the "High" mount. I'm not sure which scope I think looks sharper and clearer... this or my Nikon 3-9x40 with the BDC I have on my Savage Trophy Hunter XP package. One thing that kind of surprises me is that this scope doesn't have a protruding tab on the ZOOM ring on the eyepiece. My Nikon does and it makes it super easy to dial-up the ZOOM. Not too big of a deal because I bought this for my .30-30 which I intend to use when the terrain is more dense and brushy anyway. With this scope on it's lowest power of 2... target acquisition is natural and instinctive if you keep both eyes open. And I have to say I like the reticle style on this one. The thickness of the crosshairs lines extends to within nice and close of the intersection point. After you screw-off the protective caps... the turrets can be adjusted easily with fingers.
Pros:
  • sharp and clear picture
  • like the reticle style
Cons:
  • no protruding tab on the ZOOM ring
