Love the defender on my springfield hellcat pro. If you run a light, it balances the gun well. I also like that you can change the battery without taking the dot off the gun.

An improved Defender CCW. I already owned the open emitter version of this optic and this closed emitter version is even better. Excellent quality, clear glass, crisp dot, and looks amazing.I have had good experiences with all of my Vortex optics. The deck is a bit higher than the open emitter version but still allows for co-witness (depending on the iron sights you have).
Pros:
- clear glass
- Excellent quality
- Crisp Bright Dot
- Front Serrations
- Nice Window
- Side Battery

This is my first enclosed red dot from any manufacturer. It was purchased for my wife's S&W Equalizer, and it looks great. Everything we needed came in the box, including a 1-degree shim for up close zeroing problems. It came with all the screws needed, plus others. The dot is crisp, and the glass is very clear. If I had to nit-pick, the one thing is that the base seems thick and is not low enough in the slide cut to make a sight cut useful. It does not have one like my Sig and Holosun devices. It is high and square towards the rear sights—all in all, an excellent choice for a "budget" CCW dot. If you think about it, for regular folks, a pistol red dot is a "pure luxury item".
Pros:
- Price
- Construction
- Complete build kit, quality items in kit, and each item clearly identified.

I have owned a number of Red Dots in this footprint size. I have a severe astigmatism which requires a bright crisp red dot for me. For the most part all have disappointed. Sig enclosed and open dot too blurry. Open version of the Defender had a similar issue. I have had two Holosun EPS Carry’s and both failed to hold zero within a year. Sure they replace them but the process takes a month of downtime. Trijicon RMRcc uses its own footprint.
So being a Vortex and Trijicon fan I tried the Defender Enclosed CCW. It is very well made. It is very well designed. It has the clearest dot of any of them. I like the enclosed design to carry on a HK CC9. There is nothing not to love about the sight. I hope it continues to perform without incident. If it does this is an amazing deal. I’ve never had a Vortex product that had reliability issues. Very happy with the product and functionality. Will be selling the Ronin Holosun EPS Carry once it is replaced.
Cons:
- None that I have discovered

You can not go wrong with a company that offers the kind of warranty that Vortex offers.
On top of that, this is a fantastic optic for an unbeatable price. The original Defender-CCW was also great. The only problem that I had was that the front side of the lens filled with lint from clothing and other debris throughout the day when I carried. It was inconvenient because the field of vision was clouded unless you took a moment to clear the lens. It could be a big issue in a self-defense situation. I still love and use the original Defender, just not for carry.
The Defender-CCW Enclosed solves that issue with all of the benefits of the original and some extras. It allows me to quickly clear the lens with the swipe of a thumb if needed.
I most appreciate:
-build quality
+materials
+fast rack textured protective bezel
-size of the window
-enclosed emitter
-button accessibility
-multi reticle
-motion shut off
-side load battery access
Pros:
- Build quality
- materials
- multi reticle
- Enclosed Emitter
- fast rack textured protective bezel
- size of the window
- button accessibility
- motion shut off
- side load battery access
- solar with auto D-TEC technology
Cons:
- slightly larger and heavier than the original
