Vortex Enclosed Defender dots are amazing
I bought both a Defender ST and the Defender CCW. I've owned Holosun, Gideon, Trijicon, and Meprolights enclosed pistol dots and I like these Defender enclosed dots the best. The glass has minimal distortion, the red dot doesn't flare out and gets extremely bright for those very sunny days, the shak...

Did have one issue…
This Vortex is really nice and includes EVERYTHING you need right in the box. I was impressed at how many different mounting screws you get. The only issue I had was after I mounted this to my Bul Armory EDC and after making sure it was zeroed I took it to the range put 2-3 mags through it and the r...

Reticle distortion is a reality due to design flaw
All of the negative comments you read on the Internet about the circle and circle dot reticles warping or distorting are true. The only spot in the glass that it doesn't distort is at the bottom of the center part of the glass - basically if you try to co-witness with iron sights, that is the ideal location to use the reticle. At any other place in the window, it will distort. I called Vortex and their customer service rep grabbed one off their inventory/shelf and observed the same distortion. It's not just at the extreme edges but all over the window. If you keep the reticle in the center of the glass it will be distorted. In the regular 3 MOA dot mode, the distortion is not noticeable but if you move your head around you can observe the dot following the curvature of the aspherical glass. I believe the issue is with how they placed the curve of the glass and the fact the emitter is aimed at the bottom center of the glass (where it appears the least distorted). Vortex said their optics department is aware of the complaints but as of now there are no plans to fix this issue and it is what it is.
I have plenty of Vortex products but I'd recommend either using it in the regular dot mode, or doing a hard pass on the Defender ST Enclosed until they figure it out.

Pros:
- Enclosed, tall window, includes every accessory needed (Including a DPP Glock MOS adapter plate)
Cons:
- Emitter position and aspherical glass makes the circle/circle dot unusable

Vortex Defender St
Well as some have said, this RedDot comes with everything needed to attach to picatinny rail. Mounted it on IWI Tavor 7 with just a little too powerful of a magnifier behind it, 6 power. I will be moving back into a 3 power. Took it to the range to run some ammo through the gun and to start the process of getting on paper without bore sighting. Should have bore sighted first. It was sighted as good as I was going to get it at hundred yards. It took 15 rounds to sight in, but in its defense it was all-so a brand new gun. The process was seamless to adjust right into the center of the red on the target. Plan on going back to season the barrel in the future. Shot a total of 39 rounds 24 after dead center and it held true to the end.

worth the money!
I was going between this dot and the Holosun EPS. I’ve shot with the EPS on my friend’s gun. I decided to try this one as it’s almost $100 cheaper. I’m beyond impressed with the Defender ST!! The glass being taller than the EPS was very nice for me. Was crystal clear to look through. Now I want to transition all of my pistols to this red dot. Well worth the money!!
