Expert Review Ultra clear optic at an amazing price! - Vortex Diamondback 10x42mm Binoculars

I am one of those users who have always been impressed with the Vortex line of optics. The quality that they provide at lower than average pricing is quite impressive. I needed a pair of 10x magnified binoculars, and knew that the Diamondback would be a great choice. I was quite impressed! They include a semi-rigid carrying case with a fabric hinge that makes sure the case does not open all the way, allowing you to accidentally dump your nice binoculars onto the ground. The case has its own carrying strap, and they also include a padded neck strap for the glasses themselves. The padded strap is very comfortable to use. I actually took advantage of the return policy and opted to order both the 42mm and 50mm version so I could test both out. The difference in field of view was hardly noticeable between the two! With the smooth center focus knob and right eye diopter adjustment, I was able to tune the lenses perfectly to my eyes. I sat down at my picnic table and traded off between the two, and they were equally clear. Obviously, at further distances the field of view does widen on the 50mm model. Both models have turn-in eyecups which are made with a rigid plastic. The 10x42mm model had two height settings on the eyecups. The 10x50mm only had one setting: in or out. However, you can certainly set the eyecups to any height, but the two settings on the smaller version felt a little more secure in the mid setting, as you can feel them lock into place. It was not surprising to me how clear both models were. I got a chance to test them out at work, which is in an industrial park. This allowed me to try and read signs down the block, and I was able to read everything I pointed them at! My only complaint is that the armoring could be a little more “grippy or tacky” but Vortex does counter my complaint with numerous “knurled” gripping spots in different locations along the optic. They also include soft rubber lens covers, which stretch around the eyepieces to keep them in place. The objective lens covers are tethered around each barrel, and they stay over very securely due to the material Vortex uses. I’m keeping the 10x42mm only because they are slightly more compact, but the 10x50mm were surprisingly compact as well! I don’t see how you can go wrong with a Diamondback binocular, and Vortex backs their product for Life!
