sam's Review of Vortex Ranger 1000 6x22 Rangefinder

Simply put, this rangefinder has everything you need (case could be better) and nothing you don't need. There is no other competition for this no frills rangefinder, of this quality, at this price point. In my opinion as well as others, the next step up is obviously the Leica CRF 1000R for nearly double the price. Be honest and ask your self, are my skills as a long range marksman good enough to justify the cost of a Leica?

Extremely easy to use and compact in size. The glass is beautiful, crisp and clear to the very edge and the magnification is more than adequate. It's red led readout is excellent with 3 brightness setting's and I have used it in bright mid day light to near darkness. It's waterproof, sturdily constructed (does not feel cheaply made) and is the only rangefinder with a lifetime warranty.

It ranges various targets of different reflectivity's with consistent repeatability. So far I have been limited to approximately a 500 yard line of sight area with which to range in "A Forested area" and have had no issues at all. The Vortex Ranger 1000 also comes equipped to mount on a tripod which will enhance its ranging capabilities, hence your enjoyment and overall experience.

There are many Rangefinders on the market all of different shapes, weights and sizes. Some have ballistics tables which claim to give proper holds or sight adjustment for correct shot placement (if your exact cartridge and load correspond to what the manufacturer has listed in the units memory). This latter feature in my opinion is a marketing gimmick aimed at a novice for monetary gain. It simply isn't needed and only makes the unit more complicated to use.

If your looking for a quality rangefinder and don't want to spend $600.00 plus then look no further. Get the Vortex!
