Great for Glassing - Successfully spotted a nice Elk at sunset

by Elva D, Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on November 17, 2016
I went on an Elk hunt last month and because it was warmer than usual, we only had about 20 minutes at sunrise and sun down to glass for game. It was really important to have a good binocular with good clarity and light transmission. I brought these along to glass and my guides also were using the Razor HD 12x50. I was incredibly surprised at the light transmission much before the sun came over the ridge. At 500+ yards away the details were astounding; watching elk feed at over 700 yards was really impressive. After the hunt, we glassed for another group and found herds of elk in no time at all. During all this time, I noticed how ergonomically designed this binocular is. Very comfortable for long periods of time. The eye relief cups are really nice. The flip caps are also of good quality. I highly recommend this binocular to anyone looking for a high quality binocular used for long-range big-game hunting.
Most Helpful Positive Review Razor- sharp Vortex HD binoculars
The Vortex HD 12x50 binoculars met my every expectation. I have used a variety of binoculars for decades including military binoculars. I use these for observing birds and wildlife at long range and also for picking up navigation hazard buoys on Lake Champlain under a variety of lighting and atmospheric conditions. These binoculars are the best I have used and have the magnification to pick up distant objects clearly without distortion. They have excellent light gathering ability to pick out wildlife in the undergrowth in low light conditions or moonlight as well as lake navigation buoy's...

12x vortex razor

by Paul, from AZ, United States Written on October 8, 2019
Just returned from an elk hunt. Tho I scouted with good binos, after purchasing and using these on my hunt there was a dramatic difference. Well worth it. Generally use 10x42 binos, the extra power really makes a difference in open western style hunting. The clarity and sharpness in the early morning and late evening hours is a real plus.

Vortex Razor HD 12x

by DanW, from NM, United States Written on October 9, 2018
These aren’t quite Swarovski but they are close enough and the large dollar savings you will not be disappointed. I have tried them here in the Southwest at all times of the day and am very pleased. I have owned Swarovski el, Leica trionovid, Zeiss classic and a few lesser binoculars and these are the best bang for the buck of any. Plus the exceptional customer service from Optics Planet makes year 5 star.
Pros:
  • Clarity
  • Lightweight
  • Easy focus
  • Vortex Customer Service
  • true color
Cons:

Impressive

by Ian, from CA, United States Written on July 11, 2018
Surprisingly lightweight. Clarity is amazing especially in lowlight conditions. I was initially concerned about how shaky a 12x could get but once I’ve tried it, the shake was negligible. Really glad I went with the 12x instead of the 10x. Worth the $$$ I paid for this glass plus the lifetime warranty from Vortex is unbeatable. Really happy with my purchase and I continue to be satisfied with Optics Planet.

I own vortex : crossfire’s, vipers, diamondbacks, kaibabs, and razors. Some in various powers.
Just when I think vortex can’t get any better I order the razors. Many reviews rave about them.
Well the reviews are accurate, they give crystal clear images. Easy to hold and focus. I have the 12x50s.
Within one month I will order the 10x50s. The quality is outstanding .

The Finest Overall Binoculars Money Can Buy

by Binoman, from RI, United States Written on August 6, 2017
There are binoculars that work well at a lower price for a lot of things, there are binoculars that are better in certain aspects than these that cost the same or even more but I have never used an optic that does so many things so well at this price range.

Sometimes you just want a little sharper image, better glass, brighter images, lighter weight, a little more aperture, a little more magnification, slightly nicer feel, easier to steady. You can pay thousands of dollars for the truly top shelf binoculars and have these attributes in spades, the main difference being in the personality rather than objective capability, or you can pay less but then the performance will start to fall off and you can only have maybe one or two in the above list.

Vortex has created a flagship binocular that is extremely close to the super premium pairs costing many thousands of dollars for a fraction of the price. You still have to pay to play, these are not cheap, but if you just want one pair of binoculars to do it all in excellence and not be left wanting, buy these.

What specifically makes the Vortex Razor HD 12x50 is the overall combination of attributes. When you look through these the image is very sharp, the field of view wide, the exit pupil and eye relief quite decent. It feels like you are looking through a very high end 10x42 pair and thinking that you don't have to hold them so close to your eyes, that it's easy enough to scan and that you don't really miss the 8 power except th...

Pros:
  • Bright, sharp images, especially for the high magnification, lightweight and easy to carry, especially for the aperture, makes 12 power work in just about any condition anywhere in a light weight package, value considering extensive capabilities.
Cons:
  • Cheap, low quality accessories, shallow depth of field
Best Used for:
  • Everything except as a hammer. If you could only have one pair, this is it!

What's not to like? Nothing!

by Shadetree, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on April 18, 2017
Compared the Razor 12X50 side by side to the Vortex Viper 12X50 in a "big box". Both are exceptional.
Using the stores chart for visual comparison, the Razor clearly admits more light. The Razor has much nicer ergonomics for holding. Had my wife look through both (not showing her the price), she picked the Razor. She picked up on the brightness, clarity and handling comfort immediately.
I use these daily as we live up the side of a mountain on a dead end road, whether identifying strangers, watching game or in the field they are superb in every way. Clarity edge to edge, quick focus, sharpness and great light transmission. If you're going to be doing some serious glassing, at least take a look at the Vortex Razor before you buy. Vortex unconditional transferable warranty means you'll never have to buy a replacement. Top tier U.S. company. Yes I know there made in Japan where some of the finest optics/lens in the world originate. Optics Planet had a discount on binoculars which made these even more attractive. Great service.
