Dermako's Review of Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56mm 34mm Tube First Focal Plane Rifle Scope
First, this price range in mid to upper tier level and it does hurt, but you will not be disappointed.
I shoot long range and had the opportunity to look through and compare a wide range of scopes before making my decision on glass.
The comparisons were Kahles, Nightforce, S&B, Vortex, Leopold, Bushnell and Valdada.
This was a hands on, scope mounted on firearm and dialing from 250-1000 yds comparison of glass quality, clarity, ergonomics and various reticles as well.
For me, it came down to the Vortex and the Nightforce.
What surprised me was the S&B. In a blind test, I'm not sure you could tell the difference between the Nightforce, Vortex or the S&B.
It was that close in glass quality and clarity. The S&B's price took it out of contention with no discernible difference the glass clarity.
Now it was down to the Vortex and Nightforce
Warranty was one issue.
Vortex is lifetime unconditional for whoever owns the product. Their warranty is amazing. I have used it and in my case it has been above all expectations.
Nightforce, is 5 years to original purchaser.
I was really on the fence UNTIL I found out the following.
Vortex offers a LEO/Military discount to current and FORMER LEO and military personnel.
Nightforce offers this discount only to CURRENT LEO and Military personnel.
I don't qualify for this discount, but Vortex extends this discount to the men and women who have served and have protected us honorably.
Nightforce for all of its advertising about being used in the military, sees it fit not to honor the ones who have protected us by extending a discount to them.
I looked at it as a bottom line issue.
How many CURRENT LEO/military personnel can afford a Nightforce scope.
Most of these individuals are working 2 jobs to make ends meet.
With it being a virtual tossup as to witch scope to choose, the LEO/Military discount policies made it a very easy choice.
