Couldn't Resist Any Longer

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on September 13, 2019
Super impressed with this optic and spent a decent amount of time behind one on the range. My buddy has one with EBR7 reticle and it is a great piece of glass.

But I have always had a preference for Horus reticles so when I saw Vortex announce they were available, there were no excuses left.

Love having the same reticle in my long range setups, including a spotting scope.

Only complaint about this optic is the weight but thats an acceptable trade off considering this optic competes with others costing twice or even three times as much.

Generous eyebox, crisp lockable turrets, locking illumination ring, and wonderful optical clarity. I also really love the bronze finish that they went with for this series. Different but looks great on every rifle i have seen it on.

Sunshade and turret adjustment tools included. Only thing missing is a throw lever which is definitely worth getting separately.

Throw in the spectacular Vortex customer service and it's no wonder I see someone using one of these every time i go to the range.

First, this price range in mid to upper tier level and it does hurt, but you will not be disappointed. I shoot long range and had the opportunity to look through and compare a wide range of scopes before making my decision on glass. The comparisons were Kahles, Nightforce, S&B, Vortex, Leopold, Bushnell and Valdada. This was a hands on, scope mounted on firearm and dialing from 250-1000 yds comparison of glass quality, clarity, ergonomics and various reticles as well. For me, it came down to the Vortex and the Nightforce. What surprised me was the S&B. In a blind test, I'm not sure you co...

Top Tier Scope

by JM, Verified Owner from AL, United States Written on January 23, 2025
This is a scope that I have wanted for a long time. Being the price tag is in the top tier level of scopes has been what held me from purchasing one sooner. But I see it as a lifetime investment and Vortex's warranty guarantees that. This replaced a vortex viper PST gen I 6-24x scope. Immediately it is much bigger and heavier, as expected. I didn't feel a significant difference in weight on my rifle. I believe it's 20 ounces more than my viper PST so that's 1 1/4 lbs. The glass clarity is much better. The turrets are larger and locking, which I love. I primarily shoot distance on a range but sometimes take the same rifle hunting. I haul my rifle in a backpack sleeve after I use a tree climber to get up a tree whitetail hunting. Sometimes the PST scope will have the turrets move on me while sliding around in the sleeve. That won't be an issue with this. Zeroed very easily. Sub 1/2 moa groups at 325 the first time I used it. Harvested a nice 8 pt the day after I installed it as well. Rugged and dependable. Able to handle everything I want to do with it. Glass clarity for long distance range shooting or low level light during hunting won't be beaten by any other scope for the price. I'm very satisfied with it and won't need to buy another scope for my primary rifle ever again.
Pros:
  • Warranty
  • Glass clarity
  • Built like a tank
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • Long range shooting

Vortex Razor Gen lll 4.5-27x56

by Rob in Fl, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on September 29, 2024
For this review of the Vortex Razor Gen ll I can’t compare it to any of the other high end well known and established scope manufacturers. I have only bought vortex for my rifles because of the build quality, features and tracking accuracy and consistency of returning to zero. Another reason is the well known guarantee from Vortex that is one of the best in the business if not the best. However I also own the Vortex Razor Gen lll 6-36x56 and I can compare the two. All of the specific technical information about these scopes have already been been provided by Vortex and you can look that up. What I can tell you is that the Vortex Razor Gen ll is a great quality scope , it’s a heavy scope and you can probably find a lighter option if saving weight is extremely important. If you’re shooting bench rest and the weight is no problem you have no worries. Currently I’m running this scope on the AR15 platform shooting 6mm ARC and have only put about 70 rounds down range. That’s not enough to give a more technical review but it was very easy to zero using the L-Tec Turret system. This system allows you to dial and set zero between MRAD or between MOA. This ease of setting zero is also the same with the Gen lll but the process is slightly simplified with the Gen lll but both scopes are very easy to set zero. The locking turrets are stiff to lift and set but audible clicks of the elevation turret and wind turret sounds the same and well defined. I’m not a scope snob but the glass is ver...

Its a very good long range scope

by Ray, from CA, United States Written on February 3, 2022
I own Night Force ATACR and Kahles K525i, and Vortex Razor gen 2 scopes for medium long range shooting: out to 1,500 yards. I shoot 6.5 Creed moor, 308, and 300WM. All are excellent scopes. The Vortex Razor Gen 2, is slightly cheaper, but every bit as good. But the guarantee is the very best! It is a durable, rugged: the scope has very good light transmission and good adjustments that don't change with shot shock. For the money, the vortex is a better buy. Also, many competition shooters use this scope. Yep, that's about $8,500 dollars in scopes. Been shooting for many years. Most shooters will not do better with the very most expensive scope.

  • long distance

Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56mm

by John, from GA, United States Written on January 16, 2021
Worked extra jobs to obtain this piece of art. Once I bought it sat down with several snipers and compaired this scope with other commercial brands at 2K and above. Only down fall was the weight but the clarity and over all functions including looks won over the others by a hair. On the range with several different platforms it was about 75/25 a winner. With the lifetime policy it also could not be beat. On my Ruger Gen.2-PSR in 6.5 I put 10 rounds under a quarter at 200 yards with ELD-143 grain with H-4350. You can't beat this scope but remember it is a touch heavy, but for me it helps minimize recoil and with a SPUR scope mount, it is a true joy & fun to shoot, andit does turn heads at the range. My next adventure is to mount this on another Ruger PSR in 300 PRC platform.
Pros:
  • Clarity
Cons:
  • weight
Best Used for:
  • extreme long distance

Razor for razor sharpness.

by None, from CA, United States Written on December 26, 2020
Besides the quality of the optics, the tremor 3 system is fantastic. Don't see why anyone still uses MOA insted of mil. and "regular" cross hair instead of he Horus system. It is not a light scope, but top quality glasses weight a little bit. This scope is made in Japan, not a Chinese piece of **** but top craftsmanship. If I spend high dollars, it better be American, European or Japanese.
Pros:
  • Clear and bright vision .
Cons:
  • Little on the heavy side.
Best Used for:
  • Horus system is perfect for fast targeting and follow up shots what ever the target is.

Great Scope

by Mark B, from IL, United States Written on April 25, 2020
Obviously expensive but you get a lot for the price. Great clarity, locking knobs, included sunshade is a great feature. I purchased the Horus 3 reticle and glad I spent the extra few dollars. The scope is a bit heavy but is a great fit for my precision rifle- probably would not put on a hunting rifle. I just wish Vortex made better caps for their scopes (i.e. Leupold)
Pros:
  • Clarity
  • Turrets
Cons:
  • Weight (but expected and accounted for)
Best Used for:
  • Precion/long range shooing
