Donald's Review of Vortex Recon 15x50 R/T Tactical Monocular
This monocular is a good piece of equipment. It has a sharp image and works well in all light conditions. It come with an assortment of accessories, however the tripod quick connect is junk. That counts for at least half a star in my opinion. The belt clip is also of a lesser quality then I would expect when spending roughly $600. it bent the first day's use while hiking it was not dropped just the weight of the scope was enough to bend it to a less then useful position. It was easy to bend back. That is about half a star as well.
Now the biggest upset about this purchase is the focusing. I purchased this for deer hunting to replace my binoculars with something lighter and faster to use. It is light and takes very little space compared to a pair of good binoculars. however, it is extremely hard to focus with one hand/ It can be focus easily with both hands but even then it can be somewhat cumbersome at times to fine tune it when you are tired after a 9 mile hike with 3,500ft. of elevation gain before even getting into the zone. It works well and I need more time to make myself more familiar with the scope. I would recommend getting the one without the reticle. It will save some money and it actually isn't quite as useful as I thought it would be. It is a very fine line between 200 yards and 500 yards the slight instability and the calculation is far from accurate. As far replacing my binoculars it has done so with flying colors. I just thought it would be a little more awesome then it turned out to be. I still think it is good and recommend it, but be warned it is not quite as cool or awesome as it seems.
