Tom's Review of Vortex Diamondback 2-7x35 Matte Riflescopes
Mounted this scope on a Ruger Gunsite Scout. As an aside I would have liked to have gone with the scout scope option given the design of the rifle but I never did find a scout scope that I liked -- tried both Burris Scout Scope and Leatherwood Hi-Lux LER. Both had the same problem for me - I never could get used to the tiny field of view. Anyway, I finally resorted to using the stock Ruger mounts/rings and decided upon using a scope with a relatively small objective - 35mm in this case so as to stay clear of the Picatinny rail that is installed on the Scout. Mounted it up and clearance was perfect. Took it to the range and sighted it in with no more than 10 rounds. There is more wiggle room with the Ruger mounts than you'd think so I started at 50yds, hit paper on the first shot and then walked it in from there. Moved out to 100 yds and only needed a few more shots to a few very small adjustments to bring it into the center of the target. Enjoyed blasting away with about 30 more not only because it was fun but I also wanted to see if the scope would hold up to the .308's recoil. It did...held zero without any problems. Also, for the money, you'd be hard pressed to find clearer glass and a nicer reticle and the windage and elevation adjustments are easy to use, very crisp and very precise.
