Richard Face SR.'s Review of Vortex Spitfire HD Gen II 5x Prism Scope

I purchased this HD Spitfire 5X from a friend that didn’t like it. When I looked through it…. It was like day and night. I played it off like I wasn’t impressed so he wouldn’t think I loved it and tell me a high price. Barely able to hold back how impressed I was. He sold it to me for cheap. I own high end reflex and holographic sights and this for me is close to the best small optic out there for my astigmatism. Best scope for LVPO is March Optics Shorty 1-10x but not budget friendly. So I immediately ordered a Scalarworks quick release mount (around $100) for the Spitfire. Also an amazing mount which is much lighter than the stock mount. Plus to be able to return to zero when I put it back on after taking it off for thermals. Scalarworks mount returns to zero where I had it before. I shot 200rds to test Scalarworks claim, with 20 round intervals of taking the optic off and putting it back on in the same spot on the picatinny rail. Only once did it not return to zero and it was my fault not tightening the wheel on the mount all the way. It was off by 2” at 100yds. Once tight it was shooting groups as it was before. The Spitfire is easily adjusted for sighting in. Simple and effective. The brightness of the lit reticle is very crisp and clear. Using it in full sun on the brightest setting I could still see the red but because it’s a Prism I was able to use the reticle without any problem. That is the most important factor to me is if the battery is dead or not functioning I can still use the reticle easily. Only problem there would be if I had a black area behind my target. It takes a millisec to find it.
I’ve had zero problems with it. 800+ rounds later I’m still loving this optic. It may not be for everyone considering what’s out there but for a fair price you get a great solid optic that’s guaranteed for life. I bought a 3x for my son’s rifle and it’s another great optic. I will be buying a Primary Arms MicroPrism in 5X only to compare. Maybe it win me over but I love the spitfire gen2.
I did not give it five stars because nothing is perfect. People give out 5 stars too easily on here.
