Cam Beul's Review of Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x24mm Rifle Scope

In short, I purchased this optic based on its price vs features for my AR-15. The intended use of the optic was to be used as a practical tactical/predator hunting optic. It arrived well packaged and on time. I wasted no time to mount the optic to see what I thought of it. Initially it looked really nice, the new reticle is much more functional than the original 1-6 Strike Eagle and it was extremely crisp and clean. The illumination is nice as well and does not give an unwanted starburst effect. The magnification ring is super smooth and thus easy to manipulate. However, when one reaches 7x or 8x it has a tendency to blur as far as the image through the scope is concerned. It does not do it so much at 200yards and closer, but beyond that it is less clear. At the lower power levels though the image is nice and clear. I feel that is just something one sacrifices for a smaller low powered variable. It sighted in quick and easy with four rounds at 100yards and I was still able to shoot a 4" group with six rounds from a fence post at 300yards on a 60% silhouette at 8x even with the slight blur. I think that the optic is rugged too and will hold up for its intended use. It will however be going on a compact .308 to be a brush popper optic.
Pros:
  • easy to use
  • solid
  • clean reticle
Cons:
  • Blurring at max power
Best Used for:
  • Hunting and close range practical tactical shooting
