Can't be beat
Had a Strike Eagle 1-6x on my lightweight AR and sold it to upgrade to 1-8x. Basically the same scope just with a little more magnification and a little less adjustment range. But I was not dialing in adjustments on the 1-6x and don't plan to with the 1-8x.
Surprisingly, the "tunneling" and edge to edge clarity seems better on the 1-8x than the 1-6x, both of which are still minimal considering the price point.
For the price, you really cannot beat this scope. There are other SFP 1-8x scopes out there so it comes down to reticle choice. I really like the Strike Eagle reticle, I think they made some nice revisions from the 1-6x reticle.
Some type of "smart" illumination would be nice but obviously adds to the cost so I could understand why they didn't go that route.
Mostly I appreciate how well Vortex takes care of their customers, whether you have spent a couple hundred or a couple thousand.

1-8X Strike Eagle VS 1-6X
First of all I'd like to say I do recommend this scope. I also like the cantilever mount. This is an all around good package at this price point.
HOWEVER,
I do not recommend this over the 1-6X Strike Eagle for 2 reasons. First of all, the price difference cannot be justified for the extra 2X. The...

In short, I purchased this optic based on its price vs features for my AR-15. The intended use of the optic was to be used as a practical tactical/predator hunting optic. It arrived well packaged and on time. I wasted no time to mount the optic to see what I thought of it. Initially it looked re...

Good Optoc
Can’t beat for the money. Clear glass, bright illumination. Comparable to a scope 3x the price of it. The quality of the materials is top notch. With the mount makes for a great deal as well. Can’t beat it!

Vortex strike eagle 1x8
I have 3 of these scopes and all 3 have been replaced with steiner m5xi’s. The vortex is the worst scopes I have ever had. They do not hold zero and do not adjust as they should. These are total junk. I wish I had spent the money the first time and not wasted it on vortex optics. I will never buy vortex again
Pros:
- None
Cons:
- Total junk
Best Used for:
- the trash can
Would recommend: No

Excellent Scope - Strike Eagle 1-8x24mm
I cannot say enough about this scope for the price! There are other SFP scopes out there that are 1-8. I feel this beats out the competition especially at this price point! The Strike Eagle 1-8 has a extremely clear picture, wide angle of view and I love the reticle. I would recommend this scope for any one doing three gun or for back yard plinking.
Pros:
- Nice reticle
- Clear Sight Picture
- wide angle of view
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- 3 gun
- Plinking & target shooting
- sage rat hunting
Would recommend: Yes

Excellent product
Mounted on an AR. Excellent quality. Like the way Vortex stands behind their products. Like the way one optic covers close quarters with 1X illuminated reticle and longer precision shooting with 8X.

Excellent Service and Items
I was able to get exactly what I needed for my AR 10. Great prices on a Vortex StrikeEagle 1-8 X 24 with BDC and it included the Sport Service, Cantilever Mount. I also bought the Radian Raptor ambidextrous charging handle (which is oversized) to make it easier to charge with a scope in place.
Best Used for:
- AR 10

Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8
Hands down the best “do it all” scope for the money! I combined this with the Vortex offset mount and it was easy to mount to my Springfield Saint and was only a few clicks from being dialed in right out of the box. Optics planet has the best prices and by far the best customer service of any online retailer!
Pros:
- Very clear glass
- Magnification of 1-8
- Flip up lens covers
Cons:
- none so far
Best Used for:
- hunting
- all purpose
- 3 gun
- target practice
Would recommend: Yes

Great scope for the money
In case anyone is on the fence about this scope like I was you won’t be disappointed. I bought this scope about a year ago and it has held zero very well. It has been banged around. Dropped. And gotten wet plenty of times and I have not had to re-zero it once other than for different bullet weights. Only complaint is that it sometimes gets fuzzy/blurry when at max power. Still can’t beat it for the money
Pros:
- Holds zero
- budget friendly
- Nice reticle
Cons:
- Gets slightly blurry at max power
Best Used for:
- hunting
- Target shooting
Would recommend: Yes

OK for the price
First, ask yourself what the purpose of this scope will be for you. This scope is a bit heavy for its size. The glass is pretty good, better than most, not as good as some in this price range. I've had a couple with glass that's less clear than others, so check the scope carefully. In this price range, consistency can be a bit lacking. There's edge distortion at higher powers, but it's reasonably bright for its size and price range. To me, the eye box is not as good as my Leupold, and I prefer the Leupold glass, but it's very close.
I do like the reticle. The 2/3rd circle around the crosshairs helps you get on target faster. There are 4 additional hash lines, with bullet drop compensation, besides the zero crosshair, but no hash lines or dots for windage. I prefer this reticle to most of the Leupold reticles, except I do like the tactical milling reticle on the Leupold Patrol. Half mil hash lines on both elevation & windage. I also prefer the light weight and glass on the Leupold a little better, but the cost is a little more.
I have less use for illuminated reticles. I find they're rarely needed. On this Vortex, only settings 4, 5 and 6 are useful to me. 1, 2 & 3 are not any better than the unlit reticle. 7 starts showing a red ring at the edges of the scope. 8, 9 are too bright and 10 washes everything out, turning the inside of the scope red. The off position between levels is a nice feature if you need an illuminated reticle, though. For daylight hours, illumination is...

An Ideal AR-15 Scope, but too heavy.
All the other reviews cover the positives. My only complaint is that it is way too heavy with the cantilever mount, weighing in at 31 oz. (1 oz. shy of 2 lbs.). It alone takes my 7.5 lb. AR into a 9.4 lb. AR, plus any accessories and a loaded nagazube. My recommendation to Vortex would be make the same scope in a one inch tube with a lighter profile mount to go with it. If you can get the scope/mount package down to 20 ounces, I would buy another one.
Pros:
- Illuminated BDC Reticle
Cons:
- Massive weight w/mount - 31 oz.
Best Used for:
- Any application
Would recommend: Yes

Vortex strike eagle 1 x 8
This is my 2nd scope, so I dont claim to have alot of experience, but I can tell if an image is fuzzy or clear. so take that as you may. The most common complaint I read was the blurring affect at 7 and 8x. My vortex does NOT do that, even at very short ranges under 50 yards. Its summer of 2019, so maybe that issue was addressed and fixed. The turret clicks are are positive and "clicky". The zoom is a bit stiff, but not that bad. You dont have to worry about any settings accidentally adjusting on you while doing alot of extended firing. Eye box is a little shorter at the 7 and 8x, but nothing you will notice if shooting in a supported position. The 1x works very well with 2 eyes open. Fish bowl affect is minimal. The reticle gets bright, no problems in the sun light. I do wish they had 1 higher brightness setting though and an off setting between the brightness settings, but I will survive. I needed something compact (under 10.5") and something with a bit more reach than 6x. For this price point, I highly recommend this optic.
Pros:
- Price, Clarity (even at 7 and 8x), Quality
Cons:
- MOA increments could be smaller
Would recommend: Yes
