Matt S.'s Review of Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x24mm Rifle Scope

Had a Strike Eagle 1-6x on my lightweight AR and sold it to upgrade to 1-8x. Basically the same scope just with a little more magnification and a little less adjustment range. But I was not dialing in adjustments on the 1-6x and don't plan to with the 1-8x.

Surprisingly, the "tunneling" and edge to edge clarity seems better on the 1-8x than the 1-6x, both of which are still minimal considering the price point.

For the price, you really cannot beat this scope. There are other SFP 1-8x scopes out there so it comes down to reticle choice. I really like the Strike Eagle reticle, I think they made some nice revisions from the 1-6x reticle.

Some type of "smart" illumination would be nice but obviously adds to the cost so I could understand why they didn't go that route.

Mostly I appreciate how well Vortex takes care of their customers, whether you have spent a couple hundred or a couple thousand.
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • Solid illumination in daylight
  • Smooth mag ring adjustment
  • Clean and Clear on 1x
Cons:
  • No smart illumination
Best Used for:
  • competition
  • plinking
  • Target shooting
  • Close to Medium Range Engagement
