Most Helpful Negative Review Legs are weak and flex
For the price I wasn't expressed. The legs bend more than I am comfortable with. The method to lock the legs doesn't seem precise, there is alot of room to interpret if the legs are locked or not. I think the tripod will work, but I don't expect it to last more than a season.

Small when closed, small when opened

by Anson, from AZ, United States Written on October 29, 2019
I know most tripods aren't meant to be for giants, but this one came out a little shorter than expected. The leg locking mechanism seems weak, but I haven't taken it into the mountains yet to see how they do on rougher terrain. We'll see how that works.

Vortex tri-pod

by B.K., from WI, United States Written on January 23, 2018
Good product, took forever to receive through optics planet. Would have picked up at my local Cabella's store for an extra $10 if I knew it would take almost 2 months to receive. Product is fully adjustable, nice and sturdy with unlimited adjustments. Matches perfect with my Vortex spotting scope.
Best Used for:
  • spotting scope

Great Vortex Tripod

by Vortex, from WA, United States Written on December 14, 2017
Best value of optics tripod on the market for the backcountry hunter. Lightweight, compact packable size, sturdy enough for moderate winds and holds my vortex 60mm spotter solid. Look no further if your in the market for a tripod that is capable of it all, you wont be disappointed.

perfect with the smaller Viper spotting scope

by Loon, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on November 6, 2016
matched this tripod with the Viper scope and it's a perfect outfit. the quality is as good as one may need for normal use and the flexibility is as good as tripods of twice the price. thought about spending more but there is no reason unless one has a heavier scope to mount.

Serviceable for the money

by Jfk, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on October 9, 2016
Received the tripod before hunting trip so I had a chance to use it in some real world situations. Before I left I tried it out in the back yard and found it to be a little unsteady. Turned out the mounting plate and release aren't quite tight so I added some prices of tape to the plate to tighten the fit which worked well enough. Besides that a good cleaning of the head which included some disassembly but was really quite easy. The cleaning really helped with the pan function because of the way you tighten and loosen it helped keep the spotting scope from moving out of plane. The legs are a little cumbersome because of the twist to extend function but the weight savings over cam locks is worth it and the multiple locking angles of the legs is clutch given that I will rarely use it on flat ground.

I have a Swarovski atx 65. The optic is a little heavy to completely stabilize on this tripod at anything more than half the capable height of this tripod. That said 99% of my use is from a seated position and worked well for that application. Effected little by the wind but still too much movement to get really clear digiscoping pics at anything below 1/500 shutter speed. In the field the weight is nice as it is really light and did exactly as I had hoped. If I was able to afford to get $350+ panning tripod I would have gladly spent the money.

Mr Dael O'Neill

by Chopdael, from NSW, Australia Written on September 28, 2016
Well built and very strong.
Easy to use with very robust construction.
Slightly heavy for size but strength makes up for weight.
Easily holds large spotting scope or camera.
Packs down small to fit into pack.
Another quality product from Vortex.
I would recommend this item.

Vortex Tripod

by Ray Henicke, from TX, United States Written on September 3, 2015
I purchased the Vortex Summit SS-P Tripod kit for use with my Leica spotting scope. I wanted something light that I can put in my daypack with my spotting scope. I have a heavy Manfrotto tripod that works great but it very heavy, especially with the bigh 85mm Leica spotting scope. I would say that the tripod is lightweight and compact and fits in the daypack well. However, I think it may be more suited to a lighter spotting scope, especially in the compact range. It seems like the Vortex with my heavy spotting scope is somewhat top heavy.
If there is much wind, then I feel like it will be hard to keep the spotting scope steady like my heavy Manfrotto tripod does.

Perfect for mountain hunting!

by Ruben, from AZ, United States Written on November 19, 2014
This is the perfect size and weight for packing in a back pack, and hiking some mountains! The twist legs are quick and easy, and the legs have 3 different positions. The whole thing extends so that you would have to bend down to look through optics. (if you're 5'11 like me)
