pink's Review of Vortex Viper 28mm Binoculars V210,V208
After 35 years of hunting with "cheap" 8x25 binoculars that crapped out after a few years use, age has degraded my eyesight to the point that they are now practically useless for observation. I have a nice set of Leupold 8x42's, but they are a little large for bow hunting and not practical for constant carry. These Vortex Viper 8x28's have very good glass and will still fit in a jacket pocket. They appear to be well-built and very ergonomic. The rubber coating seems very durable, and the focus is smooth and adjusts easily with one finger. The hard-plastic twist-up eye cups are a nice touch and should last longer than the soft rubber kinds I've used in the past. Had I known how much better these were over what I've been using I'd have bought a pair years ago. They are at least as clear as my larger Leupold's (if not more clear), though not as bright due to the smaller objectives. The 28mm objectives do seem to gather light better than the 25mm's I'm used to. With the Vortex "bomb-proof" warranty, this may be the last pocket binocular I will ever need to buy. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the field of view is not as wide as many of its competitors. Overall great glass for my purposes.
