Most Helpful Positive Review Can't Beat The Price
I purchased these as backups to my Swaro's and if you can't afford the top line Binos from Europe. I would highly recommend these over all others under a thousand dollar price tag. And if you can afford just a little over one thousand dollars I would recommend there Razor's which is there top of the line! They have a great warranty! So bottom line is if money is no object buy European Glass, but if money is your deciding factor buy Vortex they provide excellent glass and a great warranty. You won't be disappointed with either sub thousand dollar Viper's or there best Razor's for a little o...

Bang for the buck!

by Jimcc, from PA, United States Written on May 2, 2018
The Viper HD bino’s are just great for the money. I’ve gotten into birding a lot and these binoculars are fantastic for the price. I had Pentax DCP-WP’s (decent bino’s for $250) and these blow them away. M,y friend has Leica binos and couldn’t believe these were under $500.
The colors are perfect, there’s no fogging, no color aberrations. Just crystal clear images. In low light they really shine bright. Great binoc’s. Worth every penny!
Pros:
  • Image and clarity
  • constructioin quality
  • Weight and size
  • Price and warranty
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Birding and Wildlife viewing

Viper 8x42

by PilotRPI, from MA, United States Written on April 8, 2018
I got these to replace an older 10X magnification $120 pair of porro prisms and couldn’t be happier. The picture is clear, bright, and much sharper than others I have used. I use them to spot birds at my feeders as well as watch wildlife back in the woods. The 8x seems like a great medium between magnification and steadiness. I plan on using then for hunting as well. The detail allows you to really pick out animals through a lit of branches and trees. No reflections internally and the picture is sharp much closer to the edge of view than with a cheaper set.
Pros:
  • Warranty
  • Clear
  • Feel well built
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • Bird watching

Mind is blown!

by Scottie, from ON, Canada Written on December 1, 2017
After months of reading reviews and going to shops comparing glass side by side I decided to purchase the 8x42 vortex viper hds. The shipping was lightning fast and customer service went above and beyond giving me a discount after i forgot to add it at check out. Back to the glass I had a cheap pair of bushnells for years that would fog up blur around the edges and look dull. I compared these vipers beside Nikon monarch 7, zeiss Predators and a few others and I always came back to this model. The image is insane! Super bright with full colours and no blurred vision around the sides. They don't fog up when I breath or go from hot to cold and in low light is where they really shine. Looked off my balcony after dusk and could see people in a shadow over 100yrds away clearly. It's like looking at a 4K video. What sold me was the VIP warranty that they stand behind and the price for what you get is very fair. I even put these up beside some swarovskis and to my eye they were very close. Did I mention they were 1500$ more....No thanks I'll take my vortex and save that 1500 for a new vortex rifle scope and still have money left in the wallet. You won't find better glass for the money. I'm tight with my money and these were worth every penny. Hope this helps.
Pros:
  • Clarity
  • rugged
  • VIP Warranty
  • low light
  • bang for the buck
Cons:
  • Hard to fault
Best Used for:
  • wildlife observation
  • Hunting 10yd - 300yds

Great Binocs!

by Nature Lover, Verified Owner from NJ, United States Written on June 27, 2017
I love these binocs! Not only can I view birds far away, I can also view butterflies and dragonflies up close. The clarity is excellent, even in low light. They are a good weight and easy to handle. I like the locking feature on the diopter ring. And the warranty seems to be above the industry standard. Hopefully I'll never have to find out!

  • Birding and close range viewing

Focus wheels

by Catahoula, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on March 27, 2017
I ordered two (2) Viper HD's in 8x42. Nice product, felt good to hold, glass is good being made in China, however, both focus wheels were sticky. Not something I think is acceptable. Returned both of them to Optics Planet for refund. Hard to believe this was missed by the factory??

Vortex Viper HD 8x42

by James, from NJ, United States Written on March 25, 2017
Purchased the Viper Vortex HD 8x42 binoculars for a wide variety of uses. I needed an upgrade from a low end pair of bushnells I have been using for the past five years. To say the vortex are a major upgrade is an understatement. These binoculars are phenomenal and for the price point it outshines anything in it's similar category. I tested several different bino's and these blew them away. Even my fathers leupolds at double the price take a back seat to these binoculars. I use these for fishing off the beach (scanning the beaches for breaking fish) off the boat, for hunting here in the northeast, some birding, wildlife viewing and general landscape viewing and so far they have served me well in all aspects. Great light intake to keep a clear view and a good FOV. Also if you're like me and spend a lot of time outdoors and tend to abuse your equipment in the elements, the vortex warranty is great peace of mind.

Vortex Viper HD 8 X 42 OUTSTANDING

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on March 26, 2014
We bought 2 pairs of these Vortex Viper HD 8 X 42 binoculars about 18 months ago and we both have been VERY HAPPY!! They are perfect for birding or looking at butterflies in all lighting conditions. And they are very durable, we have fallen a few times in the rocks and they are still crystal clear. I would buy these exact same binoculars in a heartbeat!!
Pros: light, clear, durable, easy to adjust, great warranty
Cons: none so far

Very Nice Binocs!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on August 14, 2013
These binoculars will create binocular envy for many folks. :) So far they meet and exceed my expectations - they provide a clear, bright image and I love the close focusing capability - something that is a requirement for me. Easy to use. I also love that the focusing ring is a bit tight and that the eye cups move up and down so easily. I am a naturalist, and I guide and educate a good number of outdoor enthusiasts in the Smokies and all over the US (www.justgetoutdoors.com), so I need a great pair of binoculars for work and pleasure - I am very happy with this purchase.

Great Binoculars

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on October 29, 2012
I haven't purchased a new set of binoculars in 9 years, these things are great. In low light wow, when I was deer hunting last week, I hardly could see because the sun wasn't up yet, but looking through this glass made things very visible. I highly recommend them.
Also the warranty, these days, that is important.
Pros: glass, size, functionality, lifetime warranty
Cons: nothing at this time
