I bought this scope to go on my varmint rifle and mounted it in a GG&G one piece mount. Very sturdy! Clear glass, very satisfied. No problems with retaining zero. Illumination does not wash out image, very clean illumination lines. Turrets are crisp and tactile! Absolutely no complains about t...

Most Helpful Negative Review bad choice , waste of money
Even after sending the scope back for repairs, it falls apart after 3 shots and starts shifting point of impact all over the place. Customer service is great but what good is that if you have to send it in after every 3 shots, and you can't get your money back. Pros: Customer service Cons: Can't hol...

I really like this scope even though Vortex has discontinued it.
Fortunately, Optics Planet had them and at an attractive price.

Viper strikes again

by Ken, Verified Owner from OK, United States Written on April 24, 2025
This is my fourth PST and no two are the same. Great glass for the price and love the lighted reticle. This one is on a semiautomatic 30.06 hog gun.

Good scope

by Mike, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on April 18, 2025
Quality of the glass is excellent. Adjustable brightness on illuminated reticle nice. The MOA hashmarks on lower vertical stadia wire would be much better if they were in 1 MOA increments rather than the 2 MOA increments on the scope. 2 MOA not precise enough for holdover at longer (300+ yds) distances.

  • hunting

Amazing value!

by Red, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on March 18, 2025
For the price paid, this is a tremendous deal. Clear glass, tough, best warranty in the market and the controls have a great feel. The reticle is very intuitive and easy to use. If I would have found this scope used, 3-4 years old, at this price, I would have bought it and felt good about the purchase. To get it new is a slam-dunk. If the Viper PST 2.5-10 fits your needs, buy it now.
Pros:
  • Clarity
  • Warranty
  • reticle
Cons:
  • Limited power
Best Used for:
  • 100-400 yds

Can't beat it for the money

by jebb, Verified Owner from IL, United States Written on March 2, 2025
Quality clear glass, catches a lot of light i put the sun shade on right away. Nice Audible clicks for adjustment. Radical lights up very well. Works best in low light but bright enough for daytime use. Came with a good battery. Great for short to mid range use. Came with everything in the box that it should.

Best for the Price

by TJ, Verified Owner from MN, United States Written on February 24, 2025
After reviewing countless scopes I have found the Vortex Viper PST Gen 1 2.5-10x to be the best scope for the money by Far for me for a short to mid-range scope getting away from the LPVO scope category. The glass is sharp and clear with a little loss of clarity at 10x. The reticle is fast and easy to use and the illumination knob with off between levels is great. One click and your on at the desired pre-set brightness. I found the 4 setting to be plenty bright in low light. The Gen 2 Vipers are about 1/2 lb heavier and are Bricks. The Vortex Viper Gen 1 is between a Leupold and Vortex Viper Gen 2 in weight. You can't beat a Leupold for being lite weight but you pay for it.

I compared the Vortex Viper Gen 1 2.5-10x to the Athlon Helos 2-12x and found the Helos 2x-4x to be almost unusable in daylight and at 10-12x there is some loss of clarity, the illumination is unusable in daylight and it weighs a Ton.

The only changes I would like to have on the Gen 1 Viper would be to have the illumination dial on the side instead of the rear and to have a 2x instead of the 2.5x but there is very little difference between 2x and 2.5x and I don't have any difficulty getting on target at 10yds with the 2.5x. Some people complain about the shims but they are completely optional, are easy to place and a nice feature for an elevation turn stop.

Every scope under $1,500 has some compromise and I haven't found any scope under that to be ideal. The ones I would have no complaints about cost $1...
