Most Helpful Positive Review Vortex Viper PST 4 -16x50 FFP
I strongly recommend this product. I like it so much that I bought two of them. Pros: Clarity is excellent. Illuminated reticle is a nice feature. Great value for the money. Cons: None
Most Helpful Negative Review Bad Scope
I bought a Vortes Viper PST scope and its the worst scope I have ever had. The scope when I bought it was not clear and clarity very poor. Took back to store I bought at and they sent it off to Vortex. They worked on scope and re-gassed it. Remounted and went to range today to resight in and scope i...

Vortex Viper PST

by Flyfisherpete, from CA, United States Written on November 7, 2019
I love it.

Sighting in was easy, and I have found it spot on for relatively long range. I haven't put it out to really long range yet (limited options for me), but I look forward to doing so.

I am looking at getting a different Vortex Viper for a different gun right now.

Good combination for me.

by Colin Miller, from CA, United States Written on October 19, 2019
For me this is a great combination of features I wanted, FFP, parallax adjustment, consistent and generous eye relief, useful reticle. I expect that it should work as well as other Vortex scopes I have, and if it doesn't, I believe they've got a good track record with warranty support. That it has an illuminated reticle is a nice feature too, but really bonus. I can tell people it's a built in 'night sight'. Also, not made in China.

Glass and reticle look good, not difficult to position the eye with maximum magnification, and close out pricing that makes it easy to say 'Yes'.

I'm happy to buy soon to be (if not already) discontinued items, because almost all of them will be that way soon :)

Great Scope

by KY shooter, from KY, United States Written on September 14, 2019
This is an awesome scope. Mounted on an M1A. It took a little getting used to FFP and MRAD reticle. A few trips to the range took care of that. Adjustments are dead on. Shooting into a dark shadowed area with illuminated reticle mades a hugh differance. Very clear. Good price for a good scope. No issues with Optics Planet service or Vortex scope.
Pros:
  • WORKS GREAT AND LOOKS GREAT
Cons:
  • none yet
Best Used for:
  • Hunting or Target shooting

Solid cost/benefit

by Colby, from IL, United States Written on August 11, 2019
I was in the market for a First Focal Plane (FFP) optic with solid quality and robust features that wasn't going to break the bank. I think I found it in the Vortex Viper. I am utilizing this scope with a .308 caliber rifle. I doubt that I'll shoot past 600m with this rifle; simply because there are limited places to do so where I am. Set-up was easy; and I mounted using a Vortex 30mm cantilever scope base with QD attachments. The first three rounds out of the bore with the new optic were 3.5 cm low at 50 yards. Made the adjustment and was zeroed at 50 and ready to start moving back. Three rounds to zero is pretty nice if you ask me; not to mention the three impacts were touching. The clicks on the turrets are tactile and appear to be accurate. In the process of zeroing, I was able to make various adjustments for various ranges; then using the data obtained return to those zeros and put accurate rounds on target without issue. I haven't shot at night with it yet; so, I won't comment on the illuminated reticle. However, I will mention that the EBR-1 reticle is sharp; and provides a good deal of functionality. The number and layout of the subtentions allow the user to gather relatively precise data when compared with a round or oblong mil-dot reticle. The ocular focus is smooth and I have not yet had any trouble with it coming out of adjustment. The magnification ring is a little stiffer than I'd like; but definitely not a deal breaker. Parallax adjustment is smoo...

long distance shootist

by Delray, from NE, United States Written on June 11, 2019
Would highly recommend the Vortex Viper rifle scope for your next purchase. Excellent warranty. Easy to follow instructions on setting up the sighting in the scope. Was shooting a pattern the size of a nickel at 100 yards. My sons were plinking at targets out to 400 yards with exceptional accuracy with the variable sights that provided exceedingly clear views of our target at that distance.

Vortex viper

by Guy, from KY, United States Written on June 9, 2019
Excellant scope for the money. I put it on a 6.5 creedmoor and couldnt be happier. I will definitely be buying another in the future. The warranty and quality make this a scope worth buying. I think next time i will opt for a bit more magnification

A little dated but a good value

by Will, from TX, United States Written on June 6, 2019
I bought my first one of these scopes nearly 10 years ago. I used it in several PRS courses for years. Glass was good and clear the scope always tracked well, it was one of the first really affordable, mid quality FFP/Mil/Mil scopes. When they were recently put on closeout at a very reasonable price- less than I paid nearly a decade ago I bought two more. They appear identical to my original scope, just good solid glass. The latest two will end up on SPR type rifles where their power range is nearly perfect.

Best FFP Scope For Your Money Bar None!

by Fisherus, from ID, United States Written on June 2, 2019
Let me preface my review by stating I love Nightforce scopes! But, I also prefer a scope with variable power lower than Nightforce builds for different hunting situations, particularly predator and whitetail deer hunting I rarely do at long range. For most hunting situations a magnification above 15 power is unnessary and Nightforce does'nt build less than 22.5. Weight is also another consideration and Nightforce uses a steel tube. To meet my desired needs I have been using this Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP since Vortex indroduced them years ago. Since my original purchase I have aquired three more, each for much less than I paid for the first. Currently I have them mounted on my Sako 2.70,Custom 6.5 Creedmor, CZ .22-.250 RemMag and Custom .338 WimMag.I am purchasing another for my Remington 25-06 AI. The Nightforce ATACR's and NXS's will remain on my .260 Nosler, 6.5x.284, 7mmRUM,.300RUM and .338Edge (all custom made) In addition, I also have a Vortex Gen2 mounted on a Remington 7mm Mag. So, Vortex is slowly eroding my Leupolds from my collection. Just the most high component filled scope for the money from a company that gives 5-Star service from a lifetime warranty. How can you go wrong buying one?
Pros:
  • FFP, Lighted reticle, glass edged reticle, zero stop, Lighter Weight, 30mm tube, price, Lifetime Warranty.
Cons:
  • At this price, you kidding?
Best Used for:
  • Hunting rifle and mid to long range shooting

First Focal Plane Scope

by Texmarke, from GA, United States Written on April 17, 2019
I'm not an expert on rifle scopes, but my friend at a local gun shop is. He said this is one of the high-end scopes with the lighted reticle and, especially, the first focal plane optics, not to mention the quality of the lenses. He said he wished he's seen this deal.
Pros:
  • Quality lenses
  • Great resolution
  • First focal plane definite advantage for target shooting and game.
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Target and hunting

VORTEX VIPER PST

by joshua, from GA, United States Written on October 25, 2016
I PURCHASED THIS OPTIC FOR MY REM 700LR IN 300 WIN MAG AND I HAVE TO SAY IT HAS MORE THAN IMPRESSED ME. THE 300 IS A JARRING SHOOTER THAT MADE ME NERVOUS ABOUT THE OPTIC HOLDING ZERO BUT ALL OF THE REVIEWS HELPED ME PULL THE TRIGGER ON THIS SCOPE AND IM GLAD I DID. BETWEEN THE CLARITY, CONSTRUCTION, PRICE, AND WARRANTY IT HAS BEEN A GREAT ADDITION TO MY RIFLE.
Pros:
  • Warranty
  • Construction
  • Clarity / brightness is outstanding
Cons:
  • None for me
