I recently purchased a Weaver "No Gunsmith Saddle Mount for Remington
870, 1100, 11-87 Matte", item # 48340. I attempted to mount it on a
Remington 870 but the screws that replace the pins are too short. I
cannot secure the nut on the threads. Since the screws are a standard length and made of metal I think these should not be the cause of the misfit. However, since there is a fit up problem the only other rational cause is the mount itself. I took the action to grind the screw inset area to reduce the overall width of the mount. It took a good bit of grinding but I've now been able to secure the associated nut to each screw. There does not appear to be any additional play in the mount by doing this.
I think it would be helpful to have Weaver's production quality group check their specifications for both the side thickness of the mount and the screw head inset depth against the width of a Remington 870, 1100 and 11-87 receivers.
Pros: Easy change out once it is fitted
Cons: Must be modified to fit a Remington 870
