Was on back order for two months
I am building a precision long range rifle and thought this kit would be a great addition to my other gunsmith tools. After waiting over two months it finally arrived, it was packaged very nice, and was complete. After closer inspection of the kit I noticed the 30mm lapping bar had a deep gouge whe...

Wheeler Scope Mounting Kit
Having previously been disappointed bases, rings, and scope being mounted / bore sighted locally, I found the Wheeler Kit at Optics Planet for a very reasonable price. I could not be happier with the current install and the timeliness of the delivery and ease of the transaction. I have used Optics Planet in the past with a similar experience. Highly Rated in my book.

Helps with things you can't see.
This kit really helps me with scope alignment, especially when it comes to standard Leupold rings. Making sure things are officially straight and not canted one way or the other. The kit can also help you figure out if you have misaligned recievers. We have all heard of recievers being drilled/tapped incorrectly. This kit can help you see that. Highly advise you get one one of these, especially if you mount your own scopes at home.

Wheeler Professional Scope Mounting Kit
Highly rate these tools. I already owned Wheeler's 89 piece Gunsmithing Tool Set so I knew I'd be buying quality and I'd be saving money doing mountings and remountings myself.
Pros:
- Quality and price
Cons:
- None

You’ll want one
Good kit, good instructions, good overall value. I love the little “FAT” wrench! It makes it so easy to get all the screws evenly torqued I wonder how I ever got along without it (and realized how badly I had been over tightening everything). As for the actual lapping it was very interesting to see how little contact was being made at first; even on a $100+ mount! I did find that automotive type valve lapping paste did better than the stuff in the kit. It was a little finer (although still 220 grit) and a little thinner (water based) and would recommend it. Otherwise no complaints here. Now that I finally made the jump to high quality optics I felt obligated to offer them the best possible execution. For years I would just slap whatever cheap scope on any old rings and be done... such a waste! Now that I have the right tool for this job I actually went back and re-mounted some other units. Never again will I mount a scope without first lapping the rings! For a $1000+ optic a $100 tool is cheap insurance.
Pros:
- good value
Cons:
- Addictive; lapping paste is a bit un-refined but still satisfactory
Best Used for:
- Doing the best you can
Would recommend: Yes
You need one of these if you plan on mounting 5 or more scopes.
You need one of these if you plan on mounting 5 or more scopes: The advantage of having a steady mounted scope is extremely important. However, if you only plan on mounting a few, this investments is probably not worth your money. However, the torque wrench has many other applications other than scope mounting.
Pros:
- High Qualite
Cons:
- Bit of an investment
Would recommend: Yes
