Mounting base needs to be shimmed when using factory screw.

by my2cents, from PA, United States Written on December 19, 2024
I believe the screw well on the mounting base is drilled too deep. Using the factory screw to attach the mounting base I had to shim the base to secure it to the rifle. Without a shim the base is loose with the screw firmly screwed down. It was either a shim under the rail or a washer between the screw and mounting base. Since I didn't have a washer, I used a thin plastic material as a bed under the entire base rail. The thickness of my bedding material is about as thick as 3 or 4 sheets of standard printer paper. With the shim material in place the screw now holds the base secure with no movement. I have seen videos of others having this issue with the long barrel version of the Ruger American Rimfire rifle. Mine is the long barrel version.

Way too big

by Limes, from WA, United States Written on April 8, 2019
Nicely made and apparently designed to use with the Williams rear sight (WL-RS1-RA22LRRS-71078) on the Ruger American Rimfire. Unfortunately this front sight / rear sight combination doesn't work because the front sight tube diameter is too large and the rear sight is necessarily mounted too far forward. To make it work on my rifle the rear sight aperture would have to be the same size as the threaded hole the eye piece screws in to. I really wanted to like this set up and have several Williams sights but unfortunately for me I wasted my money. Williams - you need to design a smaller diameter front sight and I would buy it.
Pros:
  • Can't think of any when used on this rifle
Cons:
  • It doesn't work with the recommended rear sight
Best Used for:
  • Paper weight or on a much longer barrel
